Esc calibration should really just set up the end points for 1000-2000ms, and it is only because of Futaba's standard of moving well outside that range that the esc needs to learn that it is actually the standard range. If you had a Futaba radio and ran the throttle down to 500ms there would be no start until 2/3rd's stick, then full throttle could be 25% higher than the 2000 standard..
It's not that important for regular (non Futaba) radio systems running a single motor, with twin's it should help align the power curve for each motor, but as PaunFD says, just programming the ESC with your receiver will do the job, as it learns your radio system end points, otherwise if it has full throttle range and starts at the right amount of stick you don't need to bother the FC will work within the standard 1000-2000ms regardless. |

Yes, most esc's are factory set for 1000-2000ms, Ive not encountered one yet that isn't, but if it starts from the normal point and gets to full throttle you are fine. There can be minor variations between brands, but nothing that will either stop the FC from finding climb power or that will rob you of peak throttle.
I have a digital pwm counter in my test gear that shows the IA6B is almost spot on with zero trims. I use that same receiver in a lot of builds. |

This will be true if you calibrate via iNav, or a receiver. The "manual" implies that you have 3 seconds after the 2 initial beep-beep before it enters programming mode. If I am using say iNav, I prefer to calibrate through the FC, since that is what is sending the actual signal to the ESC. |

With my Nano Talon I have a swift in my nose and while sitting on the ground for sat lock I had it getting so hot that it shut off but while flying I never had that yet... still not a nice feeling waiting for your flight cam to shut off^^ Thanks a lot |

Cheers, that is something worth testing. Most FC's require video to be present to display osd, the only exception I know of is the Vector, but losing the video feed won't affect the FC as far as RTH goes, as long as it is possible to see the plane once it's back (not too high).
I've not had a critical camera die before, but I did have a pan servo jam at full 180 degree turn, I had to fly home looking out the back (no rth) but the Skylark OSD gave me direction home. It's a strange situation having to only use instrument readings with no visuals. I've also had the split 1 plaster a big 'CARD FULL' across the middle of my view.. I could still see around it, but not an ideal way to fly. It's better to have some form of backup if you have any risk factor depending on how far and where you fly. Just be sure that whatever cameras you use with a switcher, they both must be set to the same video standard. OSD's dont play well when switching live between PAL and NTSC. |
