Transom Lettering

Sorry I'm sure this has been discussed before but my searches proved fruitless .

I'd like to add some lettering to the transom of my Sterling Chris Craft. The "gold leaf" with shadowing is the style of lettering I'm specifically thinking of (see attached photo examples). I'm guessing that a water transfer type decal would look most realistic.

Can someone please refer me to a vendor who offers custom decals of this type.?

Thanks in advance

Lettering

Hi Seview24, Currently I used my plotter to make my transom lettering. I can't seem to be able to go much less then 1/2"letters. I use gold for the letters and black or white for the outline. I do not know if there is gold leaf vinyl available. I think Callie is the one to contact. Thank you, Gary

Sheets of specialist paper exist for making waterslide transfers from inkjet printers. You will easily find these on the web.

Of course, a standard home printer will do yellow ink... but probably not gold. There appear to be various claims made for gold ink - I have not tried any.

Water slide decal material can be painted and/or Gold Leafed-this is my 32Ft (1:12) Pacemaker-the name was from a slide photo of our boat and B+W laser printed on the decal material-then I proceeded to gold leaf it (24K) /cut it out, apply and clear coat..

Hi Seeview24, I almost forgot, On my 1/4 Cobra, I made the transom lettering by printing it on self adhesive clear vinyl medium. You can get the medium from a company called Papillo. You can get several colors. Clear and white are what I bought. It also has choices for inkjet or lazer printers. When you find the font you want, you can print it on the medium. You should spray a couple of coats of decal protector to keep from smearing. Then you can cut around the perimete, peel off the backing and apply to transom. I also spray a couple of coats to seal the edges

Thanks to all for the input. Those are some beautiful boats you have and the examples are exactly what I have in mind although I'm not sure I have the artistic skills to gold leaf the letters myself.
I sent an email to Callie last night with my request so I'll wait to get her reply before moving forward.

When you say you're spraying clear over the graphics are you shooting from an airbrush or rattle can ? Is the clear a water base paint or some type of clear lacquer or varnish ?

It can be any clear coat you want but with vinyl graphics you don’t really have to top coat it. I have had my Miss Behave graphic on the side of my boat for years and it does not have a top coat. That boat has been used over the years and it is still in fine shape.

sealing lettering

Hi Seaview, What I used is Testors decal bonder. I don't know if it is still available. Check with Micro Mark to see what they have for train decal and lettering. I used to seal the edges of the vinyl lettering. It may or may not be needed. Thank you, Gary

Received the decal from Callie this week and I am very happy with the results. Perfect for this old boat. Thanks for the referral.

For the price she charged I could not have bought decal paper to try it myself . Printing metallic gold is no small feat on a home printer either. I highly recommend her services.
