Question

40LA in a Ace Simple Ultimate

Hi,

I have a OS 40LA in a Cesnna Cardinal, I whan to swap it with a TT PRO 46.

I found a Ace Simple Ultimate , the 40LA is too much for this little plane? It weights 270grams. A 25LA weights 180 for example.

Maybe I can move the battery closer to the tail. the receiver also but its very light.

What you think?

A Jett BSE Machined Bar Stock .90 LX would be the ultimate power.

Hi there,

I had one that I flew with an old OS 25FP. It was way overpowered with that engine. So much so that the top wing departed in flight.

Sincerely,

I was thinking that too, but welcome to the forum anyway. I have a Honker Bipe that has evolved from a 1/2A plane that needs a .15 but it works well with an LA .25. It just kind of creeps out of the 1/2A class. The .40 on this plane is overkill though. I am wondering if Doug got his plane down in one piece?

Ha! Yes I did.... but boy was it fast with no top wing! Couldn't get enough up elevator to slow it down or flare. When the top wing departed it became very nose heavy.

Thanks for the replies.

I see that the 40la is overkill, but its what I have.

Thanks again

Perhaps a trade for a more suitable engine with one of your flying friends? What you need is an OS 15LA.

You can find a good deal on ebay with a bit of searching or the for sale section here on RCG.

An LA .15 isn't too hard to find and they are good motors. I would keep the LA .40 and scare up another plane for it some day. Every time I sell a motor I regret it.

So TRUE!!!

The LA line of engines are great for doing exactly what you asked. Maybe not that extreme, but I've always wanted to put a light, 40 or 46LA into something like a .25-sized Great Planes Taylor Craft.

Not sure of the size or weight of an Ace Simple Ultimate, but a smaller LA should do the trick there too. And remember, throttle management.....

Happy flying, and let us know what you do!
