Badass Motors!

This just in from Innov8tive Designs

Starting from a blank slate, Lucien Miller, CEO of Innov8tive Designs, set out to design the finest motor available for the R/C aircraft market. Using the best materials available, such as high-temperature N52 curved magnets, high-temperature copper wire, high-efficiency Kawasaki stator laminations, 7075 aluminum alloy and high-quality bearings, these motors truly live up to the name “BadAss”. If you’re tired of cheap motors that don’t last, or motors with a complete lack of performance information (we call them mystery motors), then we think you’re going to appreciate the new level of power, performance, and quality that BadAss motors offer.

Our performance charts are the most extensive and complete available anywhere. These charts contain all the data that you almost never see with other motors, and that allows you to intelligently select the ideal power system for your model correctly the first time, every time. We test a wide range of LiPo voltages along with various sizes and type of props on a tightly controlled professional setup in order to bring you real-world results that you will see in your model. The specifications table included on each motor page is also very complete with all the information you may need to know about a motor. A full set of CAD drawings is also available for the motor and accessories allowing you to check the physical fit of a motor in your aircraft. Once you see how motor information should be presented, you may never buy another “mystery motor” ever again. Let us show you a better way to select a motor, and we believe you’ll become a BadAss customer for life.

More Info

The initial offering of this product line is a full set of 28mm and 35mm motors with many innovative features and accessories. We will be following these motors up with a set of 23mm motors for the smaller aircraft and a set of 45mm motors for the big birds.

We also have a full set of matching ESC’s that we will be releasing. We will offer 2 series of ESC’s, the Renegade Series, which is our high end line.

And the Rebel Series, which is our more “Sport Flyer” economical line.

Hi
Good news for the 28xx and 35xx Badass series
Very complete information on the detailed prop charts.
Specially no-load Io(A) for 4 voltages.

I am waiting for the future 23mm and 45mm stator series

Regarding the 28xx series :
I note that the bolt-on adapter mounting is 3 threaded M2.5 on circle 13mm
My preference is 4 threaded M3 on circle 12mm to match direct mount of some propellers like T-Motor polish carbon (2 holes 3mm spaced 12mm)
Like Scorpion M3011 , T-Motors MN3110 ... 4M3 on circle 12mm

Future Motor Development

Hello Louis,

It is good to hear from you again! The first batch of BadAss motors are designed for use in aircraft, and because of this, they do not lend themselves well to use in multirotors due to the higher Kv values.

If there is demand for them, we will produce multirotor specific motors and those will certainly have the mounting options for all of the popular styles of multirotor props.

Best Regards,

Lucien Miller

Motors and esc look good. ZTW is good mfg with reasonable prices for the programmers. Did you spec firmware or just use theirs with component specs?

You should consider a 2814-820KV to replace the popular Extreme Flight one. They go pretty fast used in classifieds. It works well on 48" 3D birds - I use one on my 3DHS Edge (Buck and a Half) and it's powerful.

+1!
The EF 48" air frames are amazing.
The Cobra 2820 840Kv, while a little longer weighs 3g less than the EF Torque motor. The performance with a 12-6 on 4S is all the performance I need on the 48" MSX!
The extra length can be compensated for by cutting out the center of the firewall, just leaving the blind nuts and securing the X mount to the back side of the blind nuts with the motor through the firewall. a washer and Nylock on the mounting screws will prevent the blind nuts from ever coming loose.
Great to see these new offerings from Innov8tive!

found it- have to click on performance data chart. Thanks!

Cobra Motor is not bad- good price too. Bad A** are about 50% more so interesting to see how they hold up. I like the shaft options on these too. Lots of parts/spares it looks like.

I don't know about everyone else but I'm putting my vote in for a multirotor version.
How badass would it be to have badass motors on your quad?

The answer is super badass. Just saying...

Hi
Just an idea to Lucien
It could be interesting to have a choice Delta or Wye connecting (same turns at the factory)
For example on three 2814-xxx (note I take the ratio 1.75)
a) BA 2814-870 --> Kv 497 rpm/V
b) BA 2814-1300 --> Kv 743 rpm/V
c) BA 2814-1950 --> Kv 1114 rpm/V
Just to get a larger Kv range & Kv number
Another indiscrete question : is the Badass factory the same as for Cobra (Danlions) ?

As a longtime Scorpion and Cobra user, these new Bad Ass Motors and ESC’s look very nice, lots of great features and innovation.

You can’t beat Lucien ‘s service and the prop charts and information is the best. Looking forward to trying BA Motors and ESC’s......

Question?

Are those motor test results based on actual tests with propellers? Or are they calculated values? I just ran the numbers of the BadAss 350-890KV motor through Motocalc, and with the 4S LiPo and 10 to 12 inch diameter props, the motor calculations are very close to the BadAss publications.

(FYI, Motocalc suggests a maximum of 80 Amps for this motor.)
