80" enlarged Tritle plans DOUGLAS DC-6B build
Hello all thanks to amamodels on eBay I managed to order enlarged DC-6 plans (for your reference eBay item#333346682250) I'm basing this build on 1/72 scale Heller kit in SCANDINAVIAN livery, the model will be fully sheeted with hand selected 1/16" balsa from BALSA USA ,it will be covered in PARK LITE Silver ,etc.,have sport scale in operation flaps, electric retracts, and of course electric motors and E.S.C.'s . The out line I will tweak to the Heller plastic kit ,that I will referencing through out the build AND will have windows!😎

The 80" makes for a good build. I enlarged the plans about 2 years ago for my build and finished it in Northwest Airlines livery, it can be found on this website somewhere, either under" Pat Tritle aircraft", or "show us your airliner". One thing I wished I would have done and that was design a way into the batteries so I would not have to take the wing off. I may do some modification still, after all I am a retired aircraft mechanic and these are the type of things we did. Good luck with your build, and if I can offer any help, let me know.Dan |

Thanks Dan ,I appreciate any help, I'm glad you posted I'm trying to find your posts,of you can provide a q link that would be great. On my 60" version the battery pack is accessed from the bottom of the wing.

That United livery is a very attractive scheme also. I went with the old Northwest Airlines scheme as I was an aircraft mechanic for them for years here in Minneapois. If I may give a few suggestions that I got from another guy, payne9999, who inspired me to do the 80" version. I changed out the 1/8th fuselage stringers to either a hard balsa or spruce as it seemed so delicate, but then I see you are going to sheet it all. I wish I would have maybe gone that route, it would have been stronger and look better too. At the junction of the inboard nacelle and wing spar you no doubt will have to do a little mod work to get any of the electric retracts to work right and clear everything, that's if you are using them. check out video's on you tube if you have not already, there is a young guy flying his 60" version along with "payne9999" flying his 80" version. Good stuff! |

I managed to order 4 Cowls today from Park plastics today, does anyone know if any other vacuformed parts are available like we find for the 60" Pat Tritle DC-6. Sure would save me some work on down the line. Well today I will work on the balsa order, and decided on what stringer material that I'm going to use. I'm curious what you all would suggest for electric retracts.

I received the Cowls today from Park plastics, fast delivery. Worked on the balsa and Lite plywood order. I reviewed the plans ,so it is time to start looking for suitable electric retracts. Regarding the motor and four E.S.C.'s I'm most certainly open to suggestions!! One thing regarding balsa planking selection: is deciding on the balsa sheet planking to utilize ,it MUST be Light---I'm considering 1/32" Balsa or perhaps BALSA USA's hand selected (light weight 1/16" balsa.(planking up date) I will be using 3/16" planking, which will be finish sanded down to ,1/16" thickness.

Rather obsessed with Douglas airliners at present and ordered another DVD ,this one is the original Airplane movie titled :ZERO HOUR! and I was not disappointed, because of all the in flight shots of a Douglas DC-4 ,it's excellent for viewing the great Douglas Mainliner in flight!!

Received my balsa order from NATIONAL BALSA, now beginning to make the wood parts kit, laser cut would of been nice.. I have made mention of Phil Noel's 88" Lockheed Super Constellation and having read the multiple build threads ,I have managed to take gain a lot of building techniques ,that I'm applying to my 80" Douglas Mainliner build.
