I have started the Swept wing version

This is made from the "NEW" Depron .. or as its now called "Modelling Foam" its a lot softer than Depron but it seems "Real Depron" is no longer and will not be available again

I put the booms in place and then fitted the KFm airfoils, then removed the booms to make it easier to sand the leading edge of the wing, I used quite a bit of CA glue on this one but still used hot melt glue for the majority of the build

I have started using the fiberglass tape for the hinges (both sides) and its also very quick and easy to make hinges this way .. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/high-str...0mm-x-50m.html

I have moved the motor forward about 50mm so this should help with thee C of G and a better battery choice .. hopefully it doesn't upset the way it flies, I have also moved the step forward nearer to the new CG

5mm round CF spar in the wing and horizontal stab were glued in using hot glue and the 5 x 1mm CF flats used in the booms were glued in using CA

About 6 hours work after parts were all cut out ,, it goes together really quickly

More Build

Ready to maiden .. AUW with 2200 /3s battery is 730 grams

This one has https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-...ner-motor.html with a 8x4 prop and 40A ESC, I hope the motor is powerful enough for it

Maidened the swept wing version of the Viking this morning and it flew great .. now I know where the CG is meant to be, it flew straight off the drawing board and didn't need even one click of trim .. I thought that was amazing

They both fly similar, but I think my preference would be slightly towards the swept wing version

Viking Swept Wing Maiden (4 min 0 sec)

Viking swept wing Second flight (3 min 26 sec)

Viking Delta Wing short flight in the wind (1 min 57 sec)

Thanks David

I decided to do the EDF mods on the Delta because it was a real shame to hack up the swept wing as it flies so damn nice

Anyway .. here it is

Very nice Dynamic Duo you've created.

Can't wait to see the EDF version to blast off !

As many contortions as the EDF intake has you must have warmed it up to 100C !

Do you have closable Cooling holes for water Operations ?

Thanks Bob .. yes I did a bit of "foam modeling" with the intake, but will definitely simplify it on the plans

I did "sort of" think about the intake cooling holes and YES they will have to be changed for water flying eh maybe the old "plastic spoon" cut down scoop or the Coke bottle bottom air scoop .. will elaborate on these later

By the way, I know the EDF seems to point down .. but in actual fact (it should be) pointing up a little to mach the horizontal stab (as did the motor/prop) which is 2 degrees positive incidence to the wing (front of stab pointing down .. back pointing up)

It maybe looks this way as the exhaust cone is tapered .. see pic

Good to hear.

I have an 11 blade EDF ~ 60mm that has never been used .
This might be a better use than that fan trainer.

Just flew the Delta with a 12 blade EDF .. https://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?...0Kv+EDF+For+4S

It flew great .. again no trim needed

I think the EDF came unglued (about 1.34 minutes into the video) as I only really tacked it to the foam cowl with a bit of hot glue .. silly me oh well another crumpled nose David

Quite right ! Good Show !

With much less racket then a Prop 'er !

Terrific ground handling too.

Now take a Chill Pill and relax ;>}}}

Bob, I was really pleasantly surprised how quiet the new 12 blade EDFs are, we always think of EDfs as quite noisy little screamers but this one was more of a swoooosh

I thought the larger prop would have made it a bit quieter but seems not so much

Plastic spoon air intake and exhaust I mentioned in an earlier post

I knew that was where you were going with your comment.

Or at least something like that.

Great minds think alike .
Or at least on the same Frequency.

It's better than throwing them in the ocean.

Is the EDF well balanced and smooth running ?
My FMS 50mm is the 1st "plastic" EDF that I've found to be so.
And it seems very efficient and reasonably powerful too.

Maybe "they" have finally figured out how to make these things.

I DO LIKE the Whoosh and quietness of the dampened whine.

Those old 4-5 blade EDFs were just inefficient, noisey AMP EATERS
