Finch - version 2

Hi everyone, Here are a couple pictures of the new version. I think the styling came out okay.

I got another micro design on the way, a brushless, canard, pusher jet using the RX brick from the a U.M.X Timber BNF, I'll be using a prop from a UMX Stryker for sure though for MAXIMUM SPEEEED

I hope to get mine in the air in the next couple of days, I got distracted at NEAT and didnít do any building.

Another plane in the works.

Hi Fritz, sounds good I'm excited to see how your brushless one does. I'm about to go put some more flights on my canard jet. I'll post a picture of it with this response. I'm using the umx Timber propeller right now so it's not super fast but it makes a lot of static thrust. I need to order a umx f-27 prop for it soon.

(The pitch is controlled ONLY by the canards, and the two elevon looking surfaces are for aileron only. I'll have to get a video of how it's set up soon as well. )

Finch version 3 - "Bluejay"

This is the Finch version 3 in the Bluejay color scheme. I put so many flights on the same motors that one of them is starting to make some bad noises at ~30% throttle. I'm using the same 2 micro quadcopter motors from when I first started the Finch project a few days or a week ago. I must have at least 30 flights on all the different versions combined by now. The version 3 update is bigger winglets for increased stability, the version 2 had a tendency to start yawing left to right when I would go full right aileron to full left a few times it a row quickly. Tomorrow I'll get some flights on the version 3 I just built, the yaw instability should be fixed with the bigger winglets.

If you are reading this wondering if it would be a good build then I am happy to report that of all the rc aircraft builds I've ever done with foam this tiny little wing is the fastest easiest best flying of them. it can be built in under an hour from the time you print the plans to the time it's ready for the first pre-flight C.G check. I'm very happy overall with the success of this design even though flying wings have been around a long long time I personally have never made any of my designs fly this good and be this reliably well flying.

Thank you for reading this article, I'll get back to you all tomorrow about how version 3 does in the air.

Update: It used to fly pretty good... got it stuck on my roof though.. This version is definitely the one to build if you're thinking of building one, the big winglets make it far more stable and I'm very pleased with its flight performance. I can almost squeeze 5 minutes out of it when its at 100% throttle the whole flight, too!

As a quick sidebar, the taileron version I posted was a flop. Not sure if the COG was horribly wrong or too much vertical area on the tail.

To be honest I think the whole design was just bad in general. I only had 1 airframe and it barely flew with a brushed motor too.
