Painting mylar?
Hi all,
I've got a project that needs some 2 micron mylar painted. I'm just wondering what sort of paint is being used to color mylar covered airplanes. Any info is appreciated! Thanks, Ross |

And DO NOT forget to wipe the mylar down with either alcohol or acetone, it does make a difference in how the paint adheres and flows out.
My personal preference is to thin with alcohol as it drys much faster(than water) and allows you to get better results from your masking- less bleeding when the paint is not just sitting there waiting to get sucked under the mask. There maybe other options for thinning but short of proprietary thinners, alcohol seems to work well. |

FWIW, I thin the acrylic with Future floor finish.
Lantsov paints his models with some sort of ink, not enamel. Possibly lighter, but prone to running when sprayed with CA accelerator. |

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll go with acrylic paint, and try thinning it. This is for one of Gordon Johnson's cartoon scale triplanes. One of these days I'll get around to building a F3P though!

I am using Createx paint, thinned with their reducer. It is on my list to try thinning with alcohol.
