Aerotetris CASA C.101 Aviojet

Hi, my name is Rob.

I've just started my Aerotetris CASA C.101 Aviojet project. I'm documenting the build on my YouTube channel here:The RC Pilots Log
I anticipate videos at least once a week.

I've chosen the 1900mm C.101, which refers to its length, rather than wingspan which is 1529mm. It's designed for 120mm EDF and once glued the airframe itself should weigh around 910 grams.

I will aim for a flying weight of 7.5kg or less.

After a couple of hours work and filming, I'm editing the first video!

I didn't take long to get my head around the Aerotetris schematics for labelling the sections, then separating them from the 6 XPS sheets. There's 178 pieces to this kit, which is a lot less than some of the other Aerotetris kits.

I think I will use the pin and PVA method to construct the model. This is whats recommended, so it's what I'll do. 1500 pins ordered from Amazon.

Im really impressed with the precision of the pieces and how intuitive it seems to be.

I started glueing the nose cone this afternoon. The kit contains two, as some of the sheets are mirrored so I thought it a good opportunity to test the method.

I ordered 1L tub of Gorrilla Glue Wood Glue, D3, which is water resistant and has a 20-30 min clamp time. I also got a pot of 1500 dress maker pins.

I found that the glue has a reasonable grab straight away which helped align the parts.

I pinned one corner, or curve first, and then worked around the piece adjusting the edge. The pieces form quite well and should in theory align perfectly.

30 minutes under the tub of glue and its all set well. 24hr for full strength.
