EC1500 assembly and DX9 programming steps
The EC1500 is the best engineered foamy I have had. The parts fit perfectly and it all works. Total time for unboxing and programming took me just over 3.5 hrs. Here are some notes:
The ESC has a blue EC5 (90 amp) connector. The Addendum recommends an adapter. I already had an adapter to convert the EC5 to an XT 90 yellow plug to mate with a 4000 65C Graphene Turnigy pack with a black XT 90 connector. I used a blank model in the the Acro type and named it EC1500. I used an extension bind cable and used forceps to insert it into the 636 receiver port. After inserting the bind plug and plugging in the 4S pack I did not get a blinking LED on the receiver. I pushed in the connectors to the separate BEC and got a blue light on the BEC and flashing RX LED. I checked all the other plug connections to make sure they were seated correctly. I removed the bind plug and bound my DX9 TX to the RX. It bound standing 5 ft away and I could see the plastic elevator “stubs” move full up when I put the fuselage down into a dive. The ramp/door opened up and was hitting my fuselage stooge. I found out that the default switch is A. Position 1 is open and 0 is closed. So make sure your fuselage holder is clear of the ramp. I later put the Ramp/door switch on switch C (Chan 5) and set the speed to 3 seconds for 0 /up, 1 level, and 2 down. Custom voice for position 0 is “Door Closed”. Position 1 is “Door Open”. Position 2 is “Bombs Away”. NOTE: The Airforc/Coast Guard command for paratroopers or cargo is “DROP, DROP, DROP”. My DX9 does not have that. The IX12 has it if you type it in to the OSD keypad. To turn SAFE Off I selected CH 7 (Aux2) to switch B. Scrolling to the monitor screen and moving both sticks down and inward I confirmed -100, 100, -100, -100. I then toggled switch B about 5 or 6 times until I saw the elevator “stubs” change direction. I then put the fuselage in a vertical nose down dive and confirmed the B switch would turn SAFE On and Off. Position 0 was On and position 1 and 2 were off. In the Digital Switch Setup menu I changed position 1 to 100% ( the same as position 0. Position 2 stays at -100% which turns SAFE Off. In the Custom Voice Menu I have Position B 0 and 1 as “Self Level On” and position B2 as “Off”. The manual indicates the model should be set to 1 aileron and 1 flap. I did this and then went to the flap menu and set the flap switch to D. The Addendum shows the correct flap and elevator settings as well as a 2 second speed. Custom voice audio was then programmed for “Flaps Up, Takeoff Flaps, and Landing Flaps”. Throttle Cut on H switch, Rates were set using values on manual page 7 and on F switch. Aileron to Rudder mix on switch G were programmed along with Custom Voice audio. Switch I was programmed for “Time Remaining”. Countdown and Stopwatch timers were programmed. Flight Modes are nice to have because I can have different elevator trims for each flight mode. See pics for the Mode Settings. Each wing was inserted into the fuselage using the tube joiner supplied. Ailerons were confirmed to work proper with SELF LEVEL On and Off. Note: the 2 power connectors and servo plugs keep the wing VERY secure against the fuselage. I have to use a lot of force to seperate the wing panels from the fuselage. The 4 thumb screws are for extra insurance and peace of mind. Page 5 shows how to install props. I found a special wrench to tighten the prop/collet nut VERY tight. This is to prevent a prop departing the shaft and causing a crash. The props were run up to check for vibration. Perfect. I don’t know how to balance the 5 bladed props other than an I phone vibration App. The stabs were clicked in and a short taxi test in the street was done to check strearing. A throttle curve and pre flight checklist finished the setup. Maiden to follow. ImagesView all Images in thread
