22nd Annual Fred Fredrickson Memorial Thermal Challenge

S.O.A.R. is proud to host the 22nd Annual Fred Fredrickson Memorial Thermal Challenge on August 24,25 as part of the 2019 Ohio Valley Soaring Series.

Location: Central Sod Farm field located at the intersection of 111th and US 30 in Plainfield, IL. Entrance is located on 111th street between Central Sod office's main entrance and the railroad tracks.

On each day the format will be:

Mixed launch / Bring your own winch / 150 meter launch height

Seeded Unlimited TD man-on-man rounds with normalized scoring within each flight group.

Contestants are allowed any number of models during the event, and may freely choose between them for each round.

Mixed launch WILL be allowed (ALES launch) . Pilots must launch towards turnarounds.


Entry fee is $25.00 per pilot for one day or $40.00 per pilot for both days. Preregistration is not required.
Pilot registration will open at 8:00 a.m. on the field each day.
The pilot’s meeting will be at 9:00 a.m. each day.
Contestants will need to provide their own food and lunch.
BBQ dinner will be provided Saturday 24th.
Awards will be given through through third place each day, with an Overall Champion, and Sportsman first place each day.
