Introduction of the Skydio 2; it got quite a bit smaller (and cheaper) than its predecessor the R1:

It looks very impressive, I wonder how well it goes flying autonomously flying amongst trees and bushes whilst tracking mountain bikers?

Skydio 2 autonomous quadcopter

I was very lucky to be able to speak with Adam the CEO of Skydio tonight on the launch of the Skydio 2. It’s very interesting product indeed and I’m looking forward to taking a look at it as soon as it comes to the Uk/EU.

Some interesting info from the conversation are

US manufactured, that’s assembly’s but parts are sourced all over the world.

Plans for UK and EU in 2020 but they are looking to possibly accelerate that after today’s feedback.

Consumer model won’t fly at night, due to vision systems needing a minimum light level, enterprise model to have an override for this.

No NFZ in consumer or enterprise model

Uses Parrot Anafi RC but it’s not compatible with Anafi,, they are using their own wireless protocol and as such Skydio RC and Beacon not compatible with Anafi. It’s a hardware deal on Parrot supplying the Remote to Skydio only.

Early preorders should be in users hands end of by November, production on ramp up now.

I see lots of things to like about it.
Tracking and obstacle avoidance are the best.
4K at 60 fps is good.
Image quality looks very good.
Wide angle lens
Good dynamic range
Camera can look up 45 degrees with no props visible
Beacon GPS tracker available
Tracks up to 10 people
Great warranty
Good price

Things I would be concerned about:
Battery held underneath by magnets (would this affect compass?)
Front props facing down with no landing gear. Will require clear flat landing zone.

This just might be the quad I’ve been waiting for. Great quality video, my question is how does it have no fisheye from a 200 degree lens? This is the game changer.

The 200 degree cameras are the six navigation cameras. The one used for filming is not that wide (20mm equivalent.) They don't list field of view for it.

Probably would scratch 360 cameras on the bottom.

As it will need a special case or it will get scratched in the backpack too..
Just like those special covers for insta360 and similar cameras.

I wonder what the FAA will think about this, one of the rules for SUAS flying is that you can't operate a vehicle while also flying your SUAS LOL. I'm not trying to troll but really this is an honest concern for people filming themselves. You might say that only apply's to commercial but if you upload a video on You-Tube it becomes commercial at that point right?

Technically with the beacon you wouldn't be operating the drone, it's following the beacon with no interaction from you. The spirit of that reg is to not have you be distracted with operating a TX while driving. Besides VegasRobbi, not that many would use this function often, but excellent to have!

I've tossed in my Pre-order, looks like fun.

Unless it's demonetized
