Staying at the field

Hi guys,
Debbie (Kenny’s daughter) is offering to rent the house for people to stay while at Kennyworld, it is 3 bedrooms, two bath, she is asking $1000 for three nights, Thu, Fri, Sat. She said it is ok for two guys to share a room to split the cost, in essence 6 people can stay at the house for the weekend at a cost of $1000/6 people/ 3 nights= $56 per night! Or $ 111 per night for single occupancy.
First come first serve, find you a roommate and let me know and I will coordinate with Debbie.

Camping

Debbie also came up with rates for camping:
The two full hook up spots are $40/ night each.
Tent camping is $10 /night.
Thanks

Is it possible that tent campers (or all campers for that matter) could be allowed to take showers in the house?

I will ask Debbie.
I don’t see why not, especially if you chip in a bit more for a “cleaning fee”

winch line length for mixed launch

I attended the Tangerine a few years back when it lined up with family travels. Might be possible this year. Can you give me some sense of how you will set winches up? When I attended the winch lines were very long, the result being that the 150 meter cutoff left the ALES planes quite a bit short on launch. There was an overall sense that ALES/F5J models were tolerated at best by the winch guys. I hold winch launch in high esteem but have grown tired of lugging a battery and winch around to fly for a couple of hours.

I found this information on winch launch heights based on telemetry info by rcgroups "gliderjim". Here's the ink:
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...ne-zooms/page5

Here's the important executive summary:

"Opinion Time
If the ALES guys are launching to 150 meters (492 feet), they are clearly at a disadvantage with a 150 meter winch to turn-around pulley distance against winch proof moldies, especially in windy conditions. In light wind conditions, the ALES guys are usually going have an advantage with their lighter sailplanes, so a bit higher launch height from the winch guys doesn't bother me much (I said a bit higher). I think with this data, if I were going to put on a mixed launch contest, I'd probably go with 120 meters (393 feet) winch to turn-around. Multiply that by my 1.25 and that's 150 meters."

I recently ran a mixed launch contest in Cincinnati and used the 400 ft line length accurately measured. My sense is that the launches matched "glider Jims" data. We had reasonably equal launch height from winch and electric.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

The maximum we set our winches is about 550 ft winch to turnaround, if the wind is coming out of the east, north or south winds get shorter winch to turnaround distance.

Thanks for that information Raed. If you follow the logic in the previous post, a normal solid winch launch will go to 687 feet with 550 feet of line. That's a bit over 200 meters. My suggestion is that if the electrics are limited to 150 meter height, they are disadvantaged by around 180 feet, that's how I felt at the Tangerine I attended. If you put out the long line, it seems fair to allow electrics to launch to 200 meters, 656 feet.

It's your contest, I'm just trying to suggest that even launch height should be the goal.

thanks
