End to end soldering GP3300

What's the best way to make sure the "short" button on GP3300's make good contact with the adjacent cell?

Cut away shrink at flat end of cell? both ends of cell and use an insulator ring between cells?

Take an X-acto knife, slide it under the insulation on bottom, then cut a ring of insulation off.

With practice, it's very easy.

Thank you for the reply Toshi. Done many side by side; just starting end to end. Also, many thanks for your posts regarding Corona and of course EHBG!

It doesn't work that way
Nice Video! Thanks wrenwright.

Why does Andrew Willetts remove the shrink from all of the cells?
Would'nt it be better to just solder the cells then glue the sticks together and then shrink wrap the pack?

Also, where did he get that hammerhead tip? And what iron is that?

To improve cooling of the cells, vital for high amp applications - not neccesary for most sport apps.

Hammerhead tip can be had from

A Weller 40-80W iron will work.

Actually Haldor I dont think they sell them anymore. I looked forever the other day to show a friend what one looks like. Its nowhere to be found. But you WILL need a hammerhead tip Pookee. I couldnt find the person who was selling custom made ones when I did a search and HL is out of them til March.

Do an internet search for "hammerhead soldering tip"

I think Andy removes the factory shrink because the stuff will melt off the cells at very high discharge rates and short out the pack. The Kapton tape is good for several hundred degrees.

A Weller 40W is the one to get. Also, get some Dean's solder.

I bought one from Mr. White too and it works well. Just remeber not to leave it plugged when you're not actually soldering and use a natural wet sponge to clean it when in use. Also, you'll need to tin it before it gets all the way up to temperature.
Good luck.
