Sure Carlos!

I just happened to notice the orig. SS EP mount is slotted and would allow for vent holes in the motor case. It is great to be able to help you with something . I cannot believe how much I have learned on your threads! I think a Carlos E-flight book is in order . Not that your busy enough already .

Just contemplating on going the next step...

Either install the Medusa Spectrum 50 AMP ESC and not limit myself with a 30 AMP system such that you can swing at least a 10 inch diameter prop.

Install the Endoplasma 16-turn for much more thrust and RPM's at the Prop. for even better performance.

Consider the Brushless Motor from Medusa Research...

Would you know..... the 28-56-1400

is out of stock and sells for $99.95....I think that I am going to stick to the Endoplasma for now....

Okay, I have the following ready:

1. One Endoplasma 16-turn with leads soldered and capacitors soldered.
2. Medusa Research Specturm 50 AMP brushed ESC
3. Great Planes GD-600 Gearbox.

I will start and reconfigure my "TEST BED" and remove the S-600GD + Stock 30 AMP ESC and install the above listed power system.

More to come....

Flight Report from Monday late Afternoon: (03-07-2005)

Conditions were pretty gusty and windy coming from the South-South West. The model was placed on lumpy grass conditions at a large park field near downtown Orlando and where many people fly the Foam F-27 Strykers delta wing looking R/C Models.

The field was unoccupied as far as people, and pets so, I went to the best grass area and pushed the model forward to start a roll with 3/4 throttle. Using the heavier and more Voltage GP-3300mAH, Ni-MH's, the model started off on a nice roll and I maintained up elevator such that to allow her to gain ground speed. I then, released the elevator and the tail picked up and then, pull up elevator and she became airborne.

I found myself with full throttle and she penetrated the wind pretty good but, not as good as I expected. It must have been pretty windy and gusty but overall she tracked real good with an occasional float or bumpy ride as a result of the gusty conditions and required creative dealings on the TX stick.

I have concluded that the model can use a larger propeller such as at least a 10 inch propeller for just a little additional thrust considering the 48 inch wing span it sports for times like these. However, I maybe the exception to the normal "Rule" and you all may not be so, inclined to fly this model or any model in such conditions and you all keeping the S-600GD, Stock ESC, and APC "Sport" 9 X 8 propeller may just satisfy you all assuming you fly in calmer conditions.

Well, here we go......yet another power system.

In looking at the conditions from yesterday late afternoon...

That model flew in 7 MPH winds and gusts up to 9 MPH so, I can not blame for being at almost Full Throttle and fighting the wind.

I will still convert to the Endplasma 16-turn but, certainly say that the Great Planes S-600GD is a very good power system upgrade from the Stock assuming you fly in reasonable wind conditions.

Endoplasma Modifications

Yes, I stayed up to change out power systems from the Great Planes S-600GD + Stock 30 AMP ESC (Been smelling like overheated - stressed out) to the Endoplasma 16-Turn + Medusa Spectrum 50 AMP ESC.

Also, installed the APC "Sport" 10 X 10 and Wow

Measured the Current draw as 24.7 AMPS @ WOT (Steady) and 17 AMPs @ Half Throttle while swinging the APC "Sport" 10X10 and using the 7-cells, GP-3300mAH, Ni-MH pack.

Here's a couple of pictures showing how I had to enlarge the firewall opening to allow the Endoplasma power terminals to pass through....did not cut much but, just enough.

Connected the battery and flip the switch to "ON" and the Medusa Spectrum made a very nice tone music saying all systems are a go!

The power from the bench seemed very impressive and I will fly in the morning assuming good conditions as the wind forecast has predicted.

I will post a flight report late in the morning!

S-600GD Power System Assessment!

First, let me say that I had an opportunity to inspect the removed Great Planes “S-600GD” power system and I was amazed that the brushes are still intact and brand new with just a little discolored look from the arcing but, this is normal. I have flown the “S-600GD” for over 10 flights and it has provided an excellent flight characteristic and greater level speed (Prop. Speed) over the Stock 550 Can power system.

Also, this system using the APC “Sport” 9 X 8 and 9 X 10 Propellers allowed very good and strong sport flying. It is my belief that changing out the Stock 30 AMP ESC to a higher current capacity ESC would allow you to install a 10 inch propeller such as a APC “Sport” 10 X 10 with excellent results at the cost from 1 to 1 ¼ AMP increase over the 9 X 8 propeller. Of course this is assuming just 7-cell, GP-3300mAH, Ni-MH’s!
