Charging a Lead Calcium battery

I am restoring a tug boat. The battery that is in it is a rechargeable Lead Calcium 12 V 7 AH. It's a big battery 2-1/2" x 4" x 6". My charger does not list this type but does have Lead Acid (Pb) . Is a Lead Calcium the same, or close to, a Lead Acid? Can I use the Lead Acid setting to charge the Lead Calcium? If not how do I charge it?

Thanks
John

It can be charged just like a Lead acid battery. Adding calcium to the electrodes in the battery, it gives it a longer service life and useable at lower temps.

Thanks Green Boat. One thing I have read is the voltage level is lower for charging of a lead acid than a lead calcium. So if I use the Pb charger the voltage would be lower. Would this effect the charge much? Maybe just not get a full charge?

Thanks again

Using a regular Pb charger will not get you a full charge but close. If you are using a computerized charger and are able to reset the cell voltage to 2.25 volts from 2.1, then you will get a full charge.
