Build Log

Suitcase Series - GNAT .010

Here's the first build of my "Suitcase Series" 1/8A & 1/4A R/C models for SMALL.

The GNAT designed by Dan McClain was the World's Smallest R/C Biplane back in 1964.

Only an afternoon of pure fun invested!

Imagine how it’ll go with a modern flight pack! As I recall he tamed the motor down with backwards prop or whatnot. To heck with that, right way on and peaked..!

I haven't decided yet, though I'm leaning toward a Pitts S2A scheme. When I was really young, I lived only a 1/2 mile from Pitts Aviation and spent time with Curtis Pitts and World Aerobatics Champions. I was 6-7 years old. It was a magical time in my life!

I flew the Nat back around 1990 was not mine had a TD .010 was
quite thrilling. The wing span required you keep it up close to
maintain orientation. I think with today's gear a 9" Nat with a
throttled TD .020 is possible.

Fantastic Tony!

I always wanted to build one of those but never quite got around to actually doing it. Looking forward to the flight reports.

Many thanks Gents! It sure feels good cutting and glue balsa again.

Steve, I will contact you this weekend to discuss the Doculan technique. Thanks!
