On something small like this Spitfire, I use it a little. You have to get the blade set just right.
Blade setting is critical. I got a Solingen blade for my old Wilkro plane. Big improvement.

Well, gents, let's take a trip around the Dark Side of the Moon.

I have been thinking again......always a dangerous habit.

Here is a pic of half of my Spitfire wing, and next to it is a half top wing to my 1/3 Nieuport 28. The big wing has a lot of support structure, so I can grip it, and 'smite' the balsa.

But the little Spitfire wing does not have the same supporting structure. You have to be very careful how you hold the wing when you sand it, or you can damage the wing/ribs. So, I have to remove quite a bit of material from a fragile wing. Which leads me to my vibratory sander.

I have to be very careful, using the vibratory sander. I just want to knock off a lot of balsa, to get it where I can use my sanding blocks.

Huh. Never would have imagined using the palm sander.

You are correct. Speaking of the Spitfire wing...

I have shown a pic of what I have worked out for a method of sanding that darn elliptical wing.

I mess around with several different hobby interests. This weekend, I did a rocket launch with the Mid-South Rocket Society in Memphis, TN.

We were commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo launch/landing. I launched my Saturn V model rocket (43 inch tall).

I have a build thread at The Rocketry Forum: https://www.rocketryforum.com/thread...s-2157.150717/
