Thomas sent me these two pictures of the ranking after duration round 2. Thomas is still in 4th place and the US team is currently on third place! Well done guys!

Looks like a tough duration round. Jesenik can be brutal, it caught some of the best off guard at the worlds two years ago at the same field: I have hardly ever seen Joe W or Andreas Boehlen drop their duration, but they have been on the long list of duration victims of that field. It can be tricky...

US team has some very experienced soaring pilots, so in the long run, tough conditions should favor them!

Good luck tomorrow guys!

Mike said turbulence got him and Tom during landing. Mike got a 65 and 10:00 but Tom was working on min sinking towards landing, got bounced and ended up with a 0 landing so most likely his throw out duration round.

The morning weather was very nice. The US pilots finished up round 1 with good scores and Tom won the first round. The first round speed finished up arouns 12:30 and we had a lunch break for the helpers and pilots.

The afternoon weather has been a challenge and there have been rain showers in the afternoon. We were greeted with that weather in round 2. Mike dropped some landing points, Tom ended up a little short and dropped the landing and Thomas had a challenge landing about 30 seconds short. We started distance and finished 6 of 9 groups.

Mike dropped one lap, 20/21. The flight was some small fraction of a second short of finishing the lap. Tom had a good flight going but the helper somehow lost the airplane at B . Tom circled back around then landed just after crossing Back. His turn buzzer came after the landing. If the official didn't make an error, he would have easily completed the lap to tie. He had a preflight in group 8. Thomas put in a good flight, dropping one lap, 19/20.

It looks like more showers the next few days.

The pilots have some great help and things are running pretty smooth. Current winch position is near the middle of the field and we will move once, mid week.

Mike's second round distance literally missed the tying lap by a 1/4 second. We all thought he got it. . .
My and Thomas's 2nd round in duration was an eye opener to how quickly things fall apart at low altitude at this field with the wind direction we had today. Just need to be extra focused on duration now to try to keep the 2nd round score as a drop.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how the team is working together. Our helpers have been fantastic and we really couldn't have asked for more.

One flight at a time. . .

Thanks for the updates. Great work by the pilots and helpers!

Bummer about the helper error and Mike missing the last lap by a fraction of a second. But it really sounds like you guys are on a roll in distance. You have already twice as many 1000s in distance as at the last worlds - and even if it is not a K, it looks like solid distance scores so far ( just one lap short, etc.). That is a solid improvement, keep it up!

You guys know how to fly duration in tough weather, so keep cool, you got this.

Good luck tomorrow!

This mornings forecast looks ok. Still some late afternoon. Shower possibilities, but a nice start. We should be able to complete round 2 and fly round 3.

Wifi in the tent had some issues yesterday.

They preferred practicing and presumably not risking their models in the contest.

Tom got the 1000 with 20 laps in distance reflight. Speed is under way.

Mike and Thomas both got low 16s. I cut. Turned a 13.xx run into a 17.68. Ugh.
Winning time was a 14.2x.

Duration round 3 next.
