0.5 oz low cost Airplane

I have downsized a DWE Lil Skeeter airplane to 70% which produces
an execellent flying 12.8gm airplane. The wing span comes out to
about 12" and power is from 6mm x 12mm x 4.5 ohm pager motor geared
4:1 and with U80 porp. This setup gives 10.5gm thrust to make this
a very lively airplane that takes off in a few feet. The receiver is made
from a micro car receiver and is 3 ch proportional. See thread on making
27mhz receiver from micro car parts. This airplane is capable of flying
with a JMP receiver, but overall weight will be around 14gm. I use 4mm
x 8mm x 28 ohm pager motors for rudder and elevator actuators which
gives nice proportional control. The fuselage is made from 1/16 sq. balsa
with 0.5mm CF rod reinforcement on each side. The wing and tail surfaces
are 1/32 balsa sanded down to reduce weight. I used 90mah lithpoly but 60mah lithpoly would be OK as motor draws .25A at crusing speed.Contact me if you want more detail.

PM sent...I'm excited. I think I can have one of these built before I can finish my current bit plane is taking a lot of time..it has a stressed structure wing using undersized wood and shrinkcovering to give it strenght. It works, my wing is so flimsy its very hard to handle, yet once covered it quite strong and rigid, has built in dihedral, and a nice tight cover. Total weight less than one gram for 15" span 50sq in area. Same thing is already been done in CF by others Im just doing it with light balsa.

Please post pictures and as much info as your time permit. I am exited too. There is lot of exiting development in bit front now. I never thought bit experiment will go this far. Wow!

Pictures and video

I am sending pictures and video to DWE, they may kit this plane. Dan Hurd
or Ruth Mudge may post these pictures on DWE Group Discussion page. I
will put out a thread sometime this week with further detail. This plane
flys better indoors than any model I have tried.

Very interesting you used 28ohm pager motor as actuators , did you added an amp to the PIC to drive these low ohm actuator ?

28 ohm pager motor driver

Yes, you will need a driver between PIC outputs and 28 ohm pager motor.
The driver to use is NJU7325 available from Mouser for $0.54 ea.

Also you will need a FET to drive propeller motor from PIC.
