I'd be happy with PLA that ddoesn't warp in hot sunlight.

You live in Norway. Try living in Tennessee USA. Mid -90's in the summer and a few days in triple digits.

Yeah it's a minor problem here. I'm very far north in Norway too. Quite happy to stay where I am.

I am going to try sealing the LWPLA with the stuff you use for wood floors. People do that to keep foamys from getting all beat up.

That stuff gets hard but I think it should keep the PLA from sagging. It will get soft underneath too but it might keep the wings from getting dents?

I got an e-mail back from Jon Donkers(ColorFabb)

Dear Robin,

Thank you for the suggestion.(20% Carbon)

We are currently looking out for other materials for which we can apply for the
‘active foaming” technology.
You can expect more from this to come in the near future.

In regard to PLA with the Carbon fibre:This we do have not in our portfolio......in which we can not test this out directly/immidiatly.

BUT,
I could ask for some samples. If some interesting results will appear,I will let you know.

Just keep a Good eye on us ,there will be more from us in this direction......

With friendly regards,
Jon Donkers

(Translated in my own words)

I will answer the e-mail back next week and also put some words and suggestions from this thread in a compact way.

Greetings and nice weekend everybody:Robin

That would be so great. I am pretty sure that added carbon fiber would up the vicat temperature too.

I ordered 2 spools. Should be here Wednesday... Gonna do some experimenting. My theory is that the lower density parts will save enough weight to afford a thin composite skin over the entire airframe... Restoring rigidity as well as giving a slight bit more thermal stability to the 3d printed structure...

I wonder how well it sands...

Anyone have any idea when or if this will be distributed in the USA?

You ordered it shipped from the EU? (I've also been hoping a US distributor would come along ....)

A little progress on my Spitfire...
Yesterday the motor arrived and I installed all the electronics and hardware.
Maybe I will maiden her this week.

Take off weight with a 3S 1400 Lipo = 561g

I wasn't able to make her lighter, due to the CG. It's still a little tail heavy, but ok overall.
Perhaps a smaller elevator servo would make it possible to get the weight another 30-40g down.
And all my cables are way too long, Might be another 10g to reduce.

But in comparison to my normal PLA Spitfire, it's still about 400g less.

BTW: Due to eCalc, the power to weight ratio is 2,23 : 1 .... I think it's not underpowered....

Nice Looking airplane!
Is there a spray paint that will reduce/reflect the IR from Sunlight? Do you think that will help with the warping from heat?
