So are there certain receivers that work better with the MPM than others? I have several Frskys, but going forward I'd like to use something else.

Honestly, I had 13 packs with the T16 + Multi module yesterday, at a spot I know pretty well, with XSR (D16 Fcc) and D4R-II (D8) receivers, and all I can say is that it works better than my (old) X9D with internal XJT module, better RSSI and only one low RSSI warning while I had several of them before.

Range testing results on T16 vs. T8SG v2

I did a number of mini quad flights the other day, with my two 5" quads and one 3". All have FrSky RX's; R-XSR, XSR, and XM+. RX antennas are mounted horizontally on front arms and are of course at 90 degrees to one another.

Ranges were just slightly less than my Jumper T8SG v2 w/ multi-protocol module. Perfectly reasonable ranges of 300m to 400m or so. I think I'm getting a bit more than this with the Mini Skyhunter with FrSky XSR, but that is all foam construction with things like VTX, RX and GPS a bit more spread out than on a mini quad.

In my older Jumper with Deviation, you could set the transmitter power level. Of course, I always set it to maximum, which was 150mW.

Not sure why this setting isn't in OpenTX/JumperTX. I poked around in the code and didn't see any way to change the power level for the multi-protocol transmitter module. The R9M module does have a power level setting.

Anyone with experience with the multi-protocol module know if it could have a higher power level setting added to JumperTX firmware?

Power is already set to maximum (~150mW for CC2500 protocols) in MULTI firmware unless you tick the low power checkbox.

Why would you use a multi-protocol module with a T8SG V2 ? Or maybe you mean the internal 4-in-1 module, which is not the same thing.

Ah, Sorry my mistake. I thought it was the same multi-protocol HW and SW in the T8SG v2 as in the T16.

I ordered a Mushroom TX for my 5.8 FPV radio on my hex and it arrived with a panel antenna for the ground station. I was going to toss it but it says on the back 8dBi gain on 2.4ghz and 11 dBi on 5.8 with an swr of 1:1.5...

Haven't tested on the T-16 yet and my replacement T-16 is shipping as I write this.. Plan is to use the panel antenna on the T-16. Too directional and a bit heavy for air, but shouldn't matter if it's on the RX or TX side in terms of better rssi.

Update: On second glance it's an either or on the Panel, not dual band. The numbers are molded in but there is a small 5800 over the 5.8 checkbox. There are a number of similar 2.4 ghz 8 dBi sma panel antennas available.

Yes, I would absolutely agree with that. I have had pretty amazing range with the MPM as well.

Long gimble stick extensions

I prefer long gimble stick extensions; for me, they make controlling the quad easier and smoother since you can get very small movements in the gimble. I got these on Amazon.

Shorter ends are also available.

I used cut down versions of those same stick ends on my t8sg. The stock ones were way too short for my liking.

Thank you very much. That'll help in the search for alternatives.

You can get up to 5000 mAh in a 2S type configuration of 2 18650 lipos for less than the price of a 2000 mAh flat pack. It's possible to put an 18650 pack together with a lipo charger board . I ordered a few and hope to put together a couple of 18650 packs with the charger board .

How does the Jumper MPM compare to the iRangeX IRX4+ ? Are they comparable? Interchangeable?

Just curious.
