Jumper T16 Owner's Thread - (2.4G 16CH OpenTX Multi-protocol Radio)
This is a new thread started for owners of the Jumper T16 radio.
Please make posts related to helpful information for users of the Jumper T16 radio. If you want to start an argument, please go elsewhere. Thanks in advance. Here are a few helpful pointers for people like myself that are new to OpenTX and/or FrSky protocol radios. Thanks for starting this thread.
I received my replacement scroll wheel from Get FPV, to replace the broken original. Is there something I can do to re-enforce the tiny plastic end or is there a suitably sized replacement available? I took apart an old DX 6i I had, but that wheel is way too small |

Amber sound pack and OpenTX Companion work fine
Just a quick note, I installed the Amber sound pack and it works fine.
http://hmvc.eu/Amber22.rar OpenTX Companion also works fine - you just pretend the T16 is a Horus 10 - JUST DO NOT INSTALL FRSKY FIRMWARE UPDATES! https://www.open-tx.org/2019/01/06/opentx-2.2.3 Also if you are looking for inexpensive 18650 cells from a reputable company, try https://www.imrbatteries.com/18650-batteries/ I use these high drain LG cells and they work great for both TX and for long range flight packs (come in flat or button top versions) https://www.imrbatteries.com/lg-hg2-...t-top-battery/ Bardwell has a video on transferring models and using OpenTX Companion.

I've done this in the past with little plastic parts that have broken in my home and it works pretty well. |

Inexpensive upgrade antenna(s) ?
Another thing I did on my Jumper T8SG v2 radio was to upgrade the antenna from a 2 dbi to 3 dbi. Not a huge difference in range, but it did help a bit.
The 3 dbi isn't so big that it makes it hard to put the radio into a case. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Anyone else know of other good upgrade antennas that have the proper style of SMA - SMA Male ??? |

Place to find premade model images for your models
The Jumper T16 like the Horus can use color images w/ transparent backgrounds for your models.
Here is a site which has tons of premade images: https://skyraccoon.com/icons I found one for my first plane I'm setting up with the T16. |

Testing T16 w/ FrSky XSR TX
Got out to fly my FPV Mini-Skyhunter today using the T16.
Skyhunter has iNav 2.1 with loiter mode, return to home, altitude hold and stabilization. I think I need to work on the iNav stabilization gains a bit to smooth things out, but otherwise everything worked pretty well. Screen is plenty readable in sun when it has backlight on. Range w/ 2.4Ghz XSR isn't impressive, but this plane is going to get the R9M shortly. XSR will go into one of my 5" quads. HD Video with FPV feed inset in corner:

That antenna is not 3dB, is just a marketing ploy.
I doubt you can really measure any change, 1 dB is something insignifiant, signal levels vary more just by the body movements, like breathing or sneeze. If you have a real measurable range change, then probably the stock antenna was junk, these antennas are mass manufactured by obscure third party companies, even Frsky had bad batches. |

Nice overview of FrSky RX's and FlySky RX's
I've used the FrSky XM+, XSR and R-XSR so far with my previous Jumper T8SG v2 radio. These have all been good for 500m. Some tested up to 700m in my FPV quads.
I'll be moving all of those models over to the T16 shortly. So far the FrSky XSR has performed pretty well with the T16, FWIW, I've had decent luck with some FlySky RX's. The tiny FlySky FS-A8S V2 ones are only good for short range, but the Flysky X6B has been working well for at least 500m or so in my 5" quadcopter. X6B has telemetry for RSSI and voltage. https://oscarliang.com/frsky-rx-mini-quad/ https://oscarliang.com/flysky-tx-rx-buyers-guide/ I love having the option to use various protocols with the Jumper radios. |

Two switch (AKA two stage) arming how-to
Another interesting thing that I'm not used to, but I had heard of is 'two-switch' arming.
(I know this is also available in a different way using two output channels in Betaflight, but I'm using iNav for my Skyhunter.) Joshua Bardwell explains how to do it in this video:
My setup screenshots from OpenTX Companion for my model with arm on channel 5 output. To arm, you flip the SF switch up (towards you) and hold the SH switch up for ~ 1/2 second and then release to arm. To disarm, just flip SF switch down. Will not arm if throttle isn't all the way down. I'm using the Amber voice pack, so the radio says 'armed' or 'disarmed' when I've properly used the arming function. |
