Here we go!

Targeting 6 channels again. Kit starts with the upper fuse assembly. Not a lot I see to lighten here until it comes off the bench. Then hollowing can take place. Have subbed out 3/16" fuse crutch sides from 1/4" as an experiment. The OS .15CVA I'm using is a heavy ball bearing equipped beast! Much carving and sanding might get me landing around 2lbs. 8 electric motors to control this. Will be very similar electrically to my FW190A. Going to try smaller aileron servos as an experiment than used in the FW190A.

2 aileron
1 flap
2 electric retracts
1 elevator
1 rudder
1 throttle
300mah LIFE
1 micro switch
1 receiver

Starting to plank with supplied 3/32"X 1/2" X 36". Thinking this is something I can lighten using 1/16" X 1/2" instead. Supposed to rain today. Good day to do experiments.

3/32 would seem excessive.

1/2A Fighter Planes Rule the Sky!

Hey Dan, the plane was designed for an engine range between .15 to .25. Running a .25 would be just right with the 3/32" stuff I imagine. As it's planking, the user can decide how much to sand away. I switched over to 1/16" as I'm using an engine in the low range of weight and power handling otherwise I wouldn't be able to share it with you guys in 1/2A Forum. Probably going to shave away a lot before its finished, and add a lot of electronic features.

I'm going to start with this .15 OS CVA. The max for the 1/2A forum. Probably mount it with the exhaust out the bottom. I'll be removing some of the mount material or using a different mount. Wondering if I can get this below 32 oz. with 6 channels. I don't remember how much my first one weighed. Ran an OS .20FP on it. 4 channel. Remember it being a great flyer though! It was made for hand launch only.

Original Prototype

Heres a High Res shot from Rich Uravitch of his original Prototype for the Hobby Hanger kit. I had only seen low resolution pictures of this over the years and BAM!!! Look what he sent for us! Thanks Rich, really like the way you modeled this plane. Good details in a 40" scale. Can't wait to fly this beast again! Mines coming along, but coming along slow.....

Everytime I look at Richs plane (and this resolution really gets big on my TV screen) I want to FLY IT! It looks ready for battle.

J40 - Nice build!

If interested, Bisson Mufflers makes a OS .15 Pitts Style Muffler to help with a more scale appearance:

Have fun,

Yes, good info, Tony. Especially helpful for an upcoming project of mine, related to the Empire of the Sun.

My pleasure, guys!

Four years ago, I contacted Bisson about their OS .15 Pitts Style muffler. Thankfully, they had a few in stock, though I needed many more for all of my .15 size "retirement" projects , so Bisson made a bunch for me. They knocked them out quick, so I'm well supplied now. With that, if they don't have enough in stock, no worries, they've got you covered. Great company!

I'm looking forward to seeing the P-47 fly!

Have fun,
Tony
