Earlier this month AeroVolo introduced their aluminum motor mount for sailplanes. Most F5J sailplanes come with a fiberglass motor mount, which is very light and has descent strength. If you are more of a dorker on your landings, you will be putting a lot of stress on the motor mount and the fiberglass mounts can eventually fracture and break. Aluminum mounts seem to be the way to go as they butt up against the fuselage so the forces applied in a dork landing transfer to the carbon fuselage and you are much less likely to break anything.
This aluminum mount from AeroVolo looks great and it has knurls on the outside that allows the glue to get a better grip for a secure joint. The mount is also mostly closed off on the face which will help to keep dust and debris from getting to the gearbox and motor. Cooling holes aren't necessary due to the limited motor run time in competition. The mount does have multiple hole placements to accommodate various motor or gearbox screw patterns.
