My second model is a 3D Cub .. again inspired by multiplex's funny cub.. but made for crash and bash..

This one should be fully aerobatic and having a high wing it should be more stable than the Extra..

AUW on this is 235gms with a 450 2s lipo setup.

The construction of all my models is easy..
Assemble the horizontal surfaces...
Hinge the elevator..
Butt join the vertical surfaces..NOTE.... align the rear rudder hinge line with the elevator hinge line..
I use UHU por for the joints , reinforcing them with a fillet of cool melt
Add strips to the top of the fuz on both sides for strengthening at the wing joint
Hinge/add the rudder..
Add triangular motor mount blocks with reinforcing..
Make the wing, adding the full length CF flat spar... hinge the ailerons
The wing is glued on top of the fuz.. and bracing struts are added below..
The paints are ready mixed water based from hobbycraft... these are not too bad on EPP... but not so good on depron..

Gartt 2204-1800... 8x4.3 prop..2s 450 nanotech.. 2x 1440 tgy servos and 2x 1601 tgy.. all 1440s would be fine.. its just what I had..
12A ESC and a 6ch REC....
All throws are maxed out ..but I have lower rates available on my switches..
servos on each aileron allow for flaperons ...

235gms AUWwith the bigger wheels

I replaced the small wheels with some bigger ones to increase the angle of attack when on the ground

videos of the funky Cub maiden flights...
The model is not correct at the moment, I was trying to get flaps setup as well as the basic COG and trim...
However the flaps are giving problems , when they are "on" the model goes well out of trim, so I have obviously setup the programming on my Horus wrong...
Nothing exciting here, its gentle flying and slow flying.. more a record of the flights for later analysis

After more longer evaluation flights...

The Extra is the preferred model.. smoother and neutral. nice and fully capable...

The Cub is a bit of a disappointment as an aerobat .... Its aerobatic performance is more troubled...
After any severe movements there is a wallow.. And its easy to give over corrections and loose a lot of control...
It flies best , in fact, very nice and smooth, when its just flown gently, which was not what I wanted..

The Cub would do better with reduced ailerons and elevator, and used as a trainer..

The flap trim problem was due to one of the aileron horns being fitted behind the hinge line, it should have been lined up correctly..

Brilliant idea for utilizing what's essentially usually a waste product. Please do post this idea in the "homemade ideas for cheap and/or free" Thread
