How far can you push an axi 2808-24 safely...

I just got one and ran it with a 9x9 apc and pulled 23 amps on 3s kokam 2000's. I have not adjusted the CC 25 from the stock timing settings. How big of a prop can I get away with and how many amps can you safely run with these motors. I would really like to get an 11x4.7 SF to work with it. Is this too big? From my intial experiences I am not really impressed with the motor...yet

Going from soft timing to hard timing with at least with jeti controller boosted AXI performance a lot. Try that first.

I run that motor on 8 KAN 1050 cells and an Aeronaut 10x6 folder. It draws in the neighborhood of 15 amps and I think it is a fantastic motor. My favorite in fact. It flies my 24 ounce 43" span HOB Mustang with great authority. I typically fly at 3/4 throttle most of the time. I have been flying that plane for about a year and it still brings a smile to my face. I use a CC 25 factory settings for ESC.

I only have the 2808/20 but if the /24 is much the same I would think 20A is close to the upper limit.

soft timing to hard timing

Just a naive question on this: I know soft start and fast start, and low timing advance and high timing advance, but what exactly are you referring to here?

Cheers, Phil

If 20A is the best it can do than I am probably going to have to let it go and get another geared setup. I did try an 11x4.7 SF and it pulled about 23-24 amps so that is pretty reasonable though it still didn't seem to come anywhere near my geared setups.

I have an APC E 11x5.5 on my 2808-24.
3s 2600 lipos

It gets warm, but as long as you're not at full throttle the whole time, it's fine.

My Groove setup pulled 27-28A WOT on a 11x8E at 5200 ASL. 3S1P 2600 Irates. However WOT was only in 'short' bursts if at all ..... Never had a problem running this way ... Note that I read that AXI is conservative with thier rating. If you are looking speed this motor probably isn't the one you are looking for. With throttle control a 10x5 or 11x4.7 would work fine ....

What is the difference between the 2808 20 and 24? I imagine it's a very similar motor? I know the 20 stated 9x5 to 10x6 depending on batteries etc. Just wondering myself what I could do with this motor. Thanks.

The /20 spins the prop faster (higher KVA) .... Similar 'watts' wise....

I have a 9x4.5E on my 52" AcroCub and on 10 cells or 3S1P it rips the 26oz cub around right quick (not pylon speeds of course ) . Plus vertical is very good if not unlimited with the LiPo in there..... If I was looking for more speed the /20 would be my choice. Looking for thrust with bigger props, I'd go with the /24 . The /24 and a high pitch prop pulls a plane plenty quick too ... but not like the /20 . For example, My son is going to use my 2808/24 in his 3D Attitude for example. I will be buying another 2808/24 for the Jitterbug Bipe I am building. Speed isn't the criteria for these planes ..... If I was looking at a pattern plane between 18 and 30 ozs I'd be looking at the /20 . Hope that helps .

I have two of the /24 motors and one /20. I don't know if they still make them this way, but my 20 is wound on every other stator while the /24 is wound on every one. I have been running the /20 on 2S 2200 cells with a 9x5.5. It probably is not optimal but it draws 17 amps. I have found them to be very different motors. I will probably put the /20 on a formosa II with a smaller prop.

I was going to perhaps put the /24 on my mini funtana or a wattage pitts. The 11x4.7 or 11x5.5E might work with the funtana but I was looking at the 9x9 or a 10 something for the pitts as it likes to go fast. I noticed hobby lobby had it up to an 11x5.5 and claims 37 oz. thrust but was wondering whether this was really possible. The funtana weighs about 25 oz. with a geared 20mm himax type of setup. Several have commented on putting the motors in their planes but no flight reports yet.

Where's your CofG?

I have the /24 on my Pigi 3D with 11x4.7 and TP 2100. AUW is 23oz and I would guesstimate that I am getting close to 37oz of thrust with this set up. I have also run the /24 on a 10x7 apc SF and that's awesome but it pulls about 35 amps at static WOT. Motor seemed to do okay with it.

Where is that remote?

I have an AXI 2808-20 swinging a 11X5.5 prop on 3s kokam 2000s "15c". This setup is running on the hard timing for jetti and pulling 32 amps. The motor is putting out almost 300 watts and Im guessing aroung 52 ounces of thrust because it hovers my 26 ounce Quiet Storm at a little less than half throttle. The motor is running great with no problems at all. I have been running this motor for quite a while now too. AXI rates their motor consevatively.
