Main rotor blade length question
I have a House Fly and been learning to fly Helis with it. All the posts on improvements to it have been extremely helpful (thanks for everyone's contributions).
I've noticed a variety of main rotor blade lengths. Some of the samples:
Blade source: length (inches)
Ones I made from balsa: 6 5/8
John K's basswood: 5 13/16
Mario's basswood: 6 9/16
Stock: 5 3/4</pre>
What effect does changing the blade length (and width) have on heli performance?
I know there has to be a tradeoff between lift and drag as the blade length and cord increases. I just don't know enough about main rotor dynamics to have a feel of where the tradeoff occurs.
