Best Mini Drift Car that takes Mini-Z Auto Scale Bodies

I’m looking for recommendations for a mini drift car to drive around my house. No competition or anything. I used to be into some RC, but I no longer have any of my gear. That said I’m used to all aspects of the hobby, but I’m mostly looking for some lazy plug in play fun right now.

I like scale models so I want one that can take the Kyosho auto scale bodies without too much trouble.

I like the Atomic AMZ but it seems I need to integrate my own receiver as they don’t stock the 2 in 1 any longer. Is there a receiver that is mostly plug and play?

Alternatively, I guess I could do the Mini-Q 7. Does it drift well enough stock?

Thanks for any feedback you have.

For AMZ you'll most likely have to re-solder all the pins for the receiver because if you use Atomic ESC it has JST-ZH 1.5mm plug. Unless you use Futaba/Sanwa that supports micro receiver like these:

https://www.banggood.com/DasMikro-GR...-1259202.html?
You can't use brushed motor with it either so you can't use 2-in-1 from Mini-Q.
The other way is cut and solder everything directly.
All in all, there's no 2-in-1 solution for AMZ.

Well, to avoid tons of wiring you are probably better off with Q7.
It's awesome as stock (but need longer servo horn). And with just front one way it's second to none for drifting.

Thanks for the input. I’ve watched all your vids, and you have amazing content. Really top notch stuff.

Do you have recommendations or links for the servo arm and front diff?

For the AMZ, there’s the ESC connection and the servo connection. Are they both JST-ZH 1.5mm female connections? I know I said I didn’t want to solder, but I can if I have too. Thanks again man, you’re a true value to the RC community!!

You can use servo horn, or rather just the horn part of servo saver form WLtoys K989 or JJRC Q35.
K989 horn is out of stock most of the time. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turn-to-...ng-pwaw-6.html
JJRC Servo: https://www.banggood.com/JJRC-Q36-Q3...-1192199.html?

As for the front diff, either Sinohobby or Eagle Racing will work. Choose whichever you like.
Eagle Racing has a bit of edge from interchangeable crown gear though.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MA20VE-23-A.../253618039700?
But Sinohobby is cheaper. https://www.banggood.com/Sinohobby-1...p-1144943.html

And yes, the connector for AMZ is all JST-ZH 1.5mm female for both ESC and servo.
If you already have transmitter AMZ is a better choice because of part support and, well, better transmitter is a head start anyway.

Do you think that I could fit the receiver from the FlySky GT5 under the body in on a AMZ chassis?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.aliex...853463294.html

I would of course remove the cover and direct solder these wires/connectors to it.

Alternatively, could I just bind the GT5 to the Mini-Q? Thanks again for all your help!!

I'm not sure how big GT5 receiver is but judging from the photo, with new pins it'll fit pretty snugly under the body.
Also you need 3 pin connector, what you found is 4.

Unfortunately GT5 won't bind with Mini-Q because it only works with newer protocol AFHDS 2A. Mini-Q is the older AFHDS.

Cheers!

I really want to use this body set.

http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/MZP150W...e_p_25234.html

Could I make it work on the Q7?

I don’t think the wheels work as they’re not for the AWD system, which is a real pity.

Anyone used converters like this?

https://www.shapeways.com/product/F2...assis-adaptors

If not, could I run wheels from this company?

http://gl-racing.com/store/miniz-awd...8orrg9g4vcnnp5

I know I need at least +1 offset. Can I run staggered narrow and wides?

Thanks. I have a situation where I can’t just order parts to me. I live somewhere it’s hard to get stuff delivered, but I have people bring me stuff from time to time, so I have to have a full kit ready to come over in May.

Yes, 90mm body works with Q7 and the bonnet looks high enough to clear the shock tower too. Well, I've seen people using Lamborghini with it which has really low bonnet, this will be fine.
But you need a 90mm spur gear that is constantly out of stock. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/rear-mai...y-tz4-awd.html

Also you're right. RWD wheels that come with the body won't work with AWD. I've never tried the adapter so I can't comment on that.

As for GL wheels, they are the best right now and also look amazing with any body style. (How did they do that?)
Staggered narrow and wide with same offset won't give you any problem, if they rub against rear wheel arches just sand the arches down a bit and you'll be fine. As for the front, with suggested 1.5 using 1 will look good. Q7 is slightly wider than AMZ, Mini-Z AWD. About 1-2mm over all anyway.

I feel you. Delivery here takes a lot of time too and only thing I can do is waiting in anticipation.

Thanks again for the info.

So if I use a 98mm wheel base Car, I should be good?

Yes, 98mm is direct fit. No spur gear needed.

Right now the only optional gear available is 94mm https://hobbyking.com/en_us/main-gea...y-tz4-awd.html
JDM tends to have 94mm wheelbase, well, all my GT-Rs do.
