But then Gerry sold the model years later to Jack. Jack repainted the model scheme to the Desert camouflage scheme.

We were amazed of the size of that warbird back then as were were flying .60 size warbirds.

The 90 flew it fine but that was back in 1981 - 82, now as were are used to seeing big warbirds with DLE 35 and 55's, at the flying field, the 90 now would seem slow, I think the 35cc will be right on.

The lady on the magazine cover "Sylvia" was the TV channel 5 "weather girl" back then.

This build brings back memories of mine. It was a nice airplane- flew well, but takeoffs were an adventure. The small rudder had a hard time with the torque, I could only takeoff on grass. It was much better after I put in a stabilizer to help with the rudder. Mine was powered with a moki 1.35 glow. If I did it again, I would go with a DA-35- it needed a little more punch, but was a good scale flyer.- Matt

Well, I put a Dle35RA on it.. I weighed it again after CG'ing it and it came out heavier than I like. At about 21 pounds, I was concerned about the DLE35 having the punch I want. So I took it off and am in the process of putting a DLE55RA on it. The wings are what makes it so heavy, probably because of the heavy duty serious retracts at a respectable 3+ pounds. A 55 should probably get it off the ground and then some!

Just my opinion, but I've flown several planes at around 20lbs with 30 and 35 cc engines. Most were biplanes and had plenty of power for yank and bank. Maybe not good enough for screamin straffing runs and fast high climbs, but good enough for general warbird flying. My experience is mostly with US35 magneto engines. The 35ra should do a far amount better, I would think.

Erospawn- my platt109 weighed in at 20.5 lbs with a Moki 1.35 glow. I think a DA-35 would be more than enough. A 55 may ruin the scale lines of the nose. Mine could loop, but you had to fly around at 3/4 throttle. Good luck, will be watching.- Matt

You may be right. My decision to go bigger was based on an Esm P-47 I picked up used. Supposed to be a 30cc, but it weighs 22 pounds and the 55 pulls it right along. I also took a look at the 50cc ESM 109 Gustav they have. Similar size as my 109, and it weighs 22 pounds according to thier specs. So figured that being the case, it may behoove me to go to a 55cc on my 109 at 21 pounds
