A little late to the party. I was about to purchase the EF yellow 52” slick. Now that I found this thread I don’t know what to do. Right now I fly the QQ extra and PA ADx and several other foamies.

Looking to step up my game with an EF/ 3Dhs airframe. Summer is coming......

From one Extreme (52" Velox Revolution) to another (52" Edge 540)

Short reply:

The 3DHS 52" Velox Revolution will be on the Advanced skill level and beyond 3D end of the spectrum of EF/3DHS planes.
On the other end of the spectrum (certified on a trainer and Intermediate through Advanced skill level and beyond) is the 3D Hobby Shop 52" Edge 540 with both planes being fully 3D/XA capable. Fully 3D/XA capable means that each of the planes will take the pilot to and beyond his current level of skill.

The best all rounder, the best looking, and the best performer (for me) is the EF 52" Slick and the yellow scheme 52" Slick is highly visible. Having owned both the RWB and the yellow scheme 52" Slicks, I prefer the yellow scheme.

Long reply:

See/read Doc Austin's excellent blog and videos on the EF 52" Slick EXP and 3DHS 52" Edge. Also, Doc has articles wherein he compares the Edge and the Slick to each other.

Forgive me if I am misreading your proficiency level, but it sounds like you are newish to the fame. In that case, the next logical step up from the QQ Extra would be the 3DHS Edge, though the Slick and Extra would be excellent choices too. The Velox is going to be a little bit wild and maybe a better choice when you have more experience. Hard to say since I have not flown one yet, but the old Velox were very serious planes.

Not that serious is bad, but if you are still learning you need something stable and forgiving, and that's the hallmark of all Edges. Where the Edge will work well for you is with it's stability and ease of flight. Give this a look: https://docaustinextreme.blogspot.co...-american.html There are also plenty of articles on the other 52s here.

Appreciate the response. And you got it spot on in my newness. That being said I have a decent RC background and have jumped into 3D flight completely. And within a year get hoots and hollers (good) from the rest of my flying club. I think I’m ready to fly a “real” aerobat plane I have been doing a ton of reading on your blogs, and thank you they have been extremely helpful. What a great resource!

I really love the look of the EF Slick 52” and the 3Dhs 60” slick for that matter but see myself going with a 52” model.

That being said the stability of the new 3dhs 52” edge sounds exactly what I need to progress my flying. And am certain all the offerings are fantastic, but as I soak in knowledge through everyone’s experience I think that will be a great plane. Now to chose the color...

Chris and Ben,

Please advise whether the 3DHS 52" Velox Revolution will be a good replacement/substitute for the 64" MXS while we await the 64" MXS V2.

Decisions............. I agree the yellow blue 52” slick looks fantastic! Maybe my favorite livery out of all the EF planes. I’m also partial to that org/blue/white extra but think I should start in the 52” class. Thoughts?

At this point the new 52” 3Dhs edge is sounding like it will be my next air raider. And I do appreciate your and Doc’s insight into the subject. These are big decisions to make! Now to see how many hours I stew over the two colors offered........ or is it as easy as a coin flip?

Yes, the 52" class is the way to go when moving up from foamies for multiple reasons such as ease of transport, lower cost, presentation in the air, and big plane feel when equipped with an Aura 8 Advanced Flight Control System and ProModeler servos.

For me, the 52" Slick is the best "all rounder" (meaning best at precision and 3D/XA). For the easiest and most stable 3D, go with the 52" Edge.

As for color scheme, go with what looks best to you and is most visible in the air.

I hope the above in bold helps!
