Multistar Lipo's are completely discontinued!

I spoke with hobbyking support and they confirmed all multistar Lipo's to be discontinued. I'm not sure everyone is recognizing what a disaster this is. The multistar lineup of lipos is the only mass-produced line of high energy density Lipos available ( as measured in Wh per Kg). All the newer Lipos instead focus on higher C ratings. This gives them higher current density but hurts the total capacity numbers.

The high energy density is very important for people who want to do long range flying with their fixed wing aircraft or multirotors which need to stay in the air for as long as possible. The only way to get high energy density batteries now is to buy 18650 LiIon cells and start building your own packs. These still lack behind the kind of ideal energy density and current density ratio of batteries like these: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/multista...lipo-pack.html

This one offers a Wh/kg number of: 251.02

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-...ck-w-xt90.html

This blue turnigy, only just 170.76 . 32% reduction in energy density

Is there anyone who knows alternatives to the multistar Lipos which offer similar Wh/Kg numbers? The blue turnigys don't even come close I can already tell you.

I was wondering what the story is - just went on to buy another 5200mh 4s 10c pack and nowhere to be seen! Gutted - these were indeed the best lipo for long range as you suggest. Nearest LiPo I can find is this one https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-...ck-w-xt60.html which is heavier and slightly wider.

Hi Felfix

You are correct we have discontinued the Multistar Brand Name (Only) the reason we have done this is to reduce our brand name range and focussing more on quality of the packs

The High-density Multistar packs that you normally purchased are now converted to Turnigy Blue, they are the same quality packs as the older Multistar lipos you normally would have purchased from hobbyking.
We kept all the sizes that were available in the multistar range, we only changed the branding. Rest assured we will always have these high-density packs available.

Kind Regards
Richard

I hope you are going to ditch the Nanotech line, I never had any luck with those at all. The Zippy line, Turnigy Blue, and Graphene have all been very good but the Nano Techs are junk in my opinion.

The new ones are meant to be very good, I have read. With tests from the gurus etc...

It seems odd but I have not seen any of the gurus lately. Hmmm.

Why should any of them chime in. Hobbyking Richard explained the rebranding of the Multistar lipo's.
In case you missed it I quoted him above.

Wow, touchy. Why should anyone not chime in? Would you care if someone chimed in on a Hyperion thread? I think not.

A while back I asked if HK was bringing out some new blue Turnigies - as I saw this on the website:

https://hobbyking.com/de_de/turnigy-...ck-w-xt60.html

Now it's clear: it's a Multistar with a blue label. These were meant to be quite good - and the price is great... I'm all set with Graphenes in this size, but if I needed this size that's what I'd buy for sure, at that price..

Some reports on the Nano-tech Plus lipos - which is what I meant:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...s#post40357092

I guess Race Miata is one of the gurus. Seems to put his lipos through their paces, with comprehensive testing, data, etc... He wasn't the only one, as I recall. Couldn't find the main thread, at least not quickly. Anyway, based on what I've read I would definitely try some of the Nano-tech Plus. Seem to be a good quality lighter alternative to Graphenes.

I buy basically all my lipos from HK these days. No China Hobbyline here in Europe. They simply cost half or less than half what the competitors do, and based on testing by guys like RM and others, I'm pretty sure they're among the very best(Graphenes anyway, depending on application of course...), if not the best. Especially the best for the money and my needs... And not just "especially" in Europe, but - for the money - flat-out no question. Turnigy HDs and Graphenes are my favorites based on experience, and I'd buy the Nano-tech Pluses in a heartbeat. Also the blue Turnigy rebranded Multistars.
