This Sunday, it will be the maiden flight of this P40. I am going to try the 5 gram brushless on this since the Airframe is only 25 grams. My target AUW is about 75 grams with 180mah 2S lipo.

Should be quite a floater. Are you using 3mm foam instead of 5mm?

Looks like you are also using rudder instead of ailerons. That would also make a great indoor plane. Might build something similar for next winter flying up here. I also fly rubber powered models.

for sure. I am using 3mm foam.

This plane will be flown outdoor early morning when there is no winds.

Everything is ready for the maiden flight tomorrow. AUW is 80 grams and motor thrust data on HK says 90 grams pull for the 5 gram motor.

That should do it, mrexcel!

I decided to give it another chance. I patched up my P-40 and added tape to the nose.I tried short test hops in a small field with very tall grass, and was able to get it trimmed right for hand launching.

Too much wind and too small space to really fly it more than a few seconds. But I hope to try again tomorrow morning in the large field, when there is less wind.

So there should be two of these P-40s flying on opposite sides of the planet tomorrow.

Bad weather here and won't be able to fly this morning. Do you know whether Electric Orange has got a Spitfire plans?

Sorry to hear about the weather. Flew mine last evening when the wind died, got some circuits in, but the wing folded where it had been creased and repaired. I started building a new one.

Re E.O. planes, no Spitfire, there were 4: P-51, P-40, Me109, and Zero.

He also did a built up foam J3 Cub, GeeBee Model D, and a foam version of the old Ugly Stick.

Awesome thread!

What potential do you think these builds have with dollar store readiboard foam? I don't have anything else unfortunately!

this is exactly what I have (4.8mm it seems ... 3/16"). Many thanks!

They sell each sheet at my local dollar store for $1.25

we called this here as "KT Boards". This is perfect for model planes

Really? Nice!

Do they come with a layer of paper on them too?

It just seems that once I take the paper off, the foam becomes a little weak (easily bends).

Maybe this is just me.

Thank you mrexcel

Its a kind of lamination we get here. Its not paper though.

I see...

Alright, I will give it a try for sure! The paper makes it strong and rigid that is for sure, but it also makes it twice as heavy.

This seems like an easy plane to build so I will try different methods.

Will the brushed parkzone motor/gearbox work with these planes? That's all I have right now unfortunately. Thanks!

to use brushed parkzone motors you will have to make the model very light. my model's airframe came to 25 grams.
