3,5meter depron A380 :D

I have now started the assembly of my scale 1:22,3 Airbus A380 in depron.
Wingspan will be ca 3,5meter, I'll fill in more data later. I have started assembling the center section in a rig.

this is how the body cross-section will look, with both floors inside.

thank's Ben_E, I really look forward to fly this one, it's gonna be MASSIVE!! it will fly really slow with this enormous wing! I'm allso going to use a microcontroller for the gear, mainly because there's now way my Futaba radio can cope with all the functions needed for the gear retraction, handling the doors and retraction of the 5 struts. The advantage of useing a PIC microcontroller is that it's quite simple to use with RC-stuff like connecting servos, reading rx-signals, programming sequences and so forth. That will make a nice effekt as I can make the gears move in a scalelike speed and sequence.

Im not sure what propulsion I'll use, it depends on what the final weight will be, I hope to have the monster under 4kg flying. One thing I do know for sure Ado, is that yes I am insane. What really made me kick off this project now is that my friend found a good stuff to make a nice layer on the depron with, I don't remember what it's called, but after aplying maby 2 thin layers of that stuff you get a really nice surface and it's possible to use any spray on top without damaging the depron. It's allso waterbased and low weight so it's perfect for this, easy to aply with airbrush to get thin layers, I'll check what that stuff is called, think it was meant for floors. I did most of the planning for this project many month ago, but I didn't want to start before I had a method of getting a nice finish, than all the hard work feels more worth it.

Awesome, quite a challenging project you've taken on and it looks like you're being really meticulous about it too! Are you going to try to re-create the wings as close to scale as possible? The 380 sure has very cool-looking wings... almost gull-wing like at the root with a crazy twist in them (major washout on the whole wing), and then the wingtip sails at the ends. I wonder how sensitive that wing design is, or is a visual "close enough" going to work? I guess washout makes sense on an airliner that's really designed to fly well at only one speed...

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

I'll do everything as close to scale as possible, the wing will be scale-like with all what you mentioned, the very high alpha at the root is actually very good in a model because it improves low-speed/high-alpha characteristics very much. I guess the gull-like shape of the wings is partly due to the fact that they need to get those huge engines of the ground. They have near the same diameter as a MD80 airliners body!! More construction pics comming tomorrow!
