7,05 M Rosenthal ASW22b

My new toy
Just got this ASW22 very cheap, (900$) It has not been in the air for around 5 years so it was exciting if there was connection to all the servos, and I was pretty happy when I Saw that everything was working. Only thing that was missing in the plane was a wire extension from the rx to the wing.
After I made the wire it was plug and play,

Tomorrow I will bring it to the club evening at the school for more servo check and maybe the Giant glider check for planes over 7 kg.

Weight is 13,5 kg

Cheers

Neat!

Great deal!
I had one many, many years ago. Winched launched one time!!!!! Really a thrill??

Aero towed after that! Just could not get used to the flex in the wings. However, once in the air it was really easy to fly. Had the ailerons and flaps connected electronically.

If you aero tow, the wing tips can snag the ground and ground loop VE RY quickly. I got of the ground as ASAP and then tried to stay behind the tow plane and keep tension in the tow line. Used spoilers on tow sometimes to keep behind, This ship will really move out very quickly!

Last I heard about mine it was in the Western US, slope soaring.

ENJOY!!!

No weather for maiden flight this weekend, so I am working on the ASW 22 decals

I just got the software for the decal cutter and I have now logged some hours at the pc and the file should now be ready for the cut. (I hope )
It will be almost as on the picture, but in red due to the number already on the wing.
Hope to get them this week.

Maiden flight went really well today

A bit slow on the controls but great flying performance.
I think it used around 8 sec to do a roll

7 meter ASW 22, maiden flight. (3 min 23 sec)

Great flight video. Looks great screaming past or scratching for lift. Should be a great all rounder. I’m impressed with the wing stiffness, no flop even on landing.
13.5kg sounds pretty light to me, I’m sure my 6m ka8 weighs as much or more.
I’m jealous

Wow, nice work!
I'm definitely envious of you! Great price for so much performance. I love the high aspect ratio wings.

I had a Nimbus 4 and found the same thing; not much to do besides climb in weak thermals and do awesome low passes. Rolls, etc are out of the questions. HAHA!

4 more flight yesterday, towed by the Red Pull with 150 cc 3w engine and climbing with 11 M/sec.
Now I have removed 400 gram lead in the nose, and next flight 50 gram more
The cg getting near where I feel it should be, and the elevator feeling is almost as I like it.

Nice loops, and the roll is ok to the left. but not as fast to the right..
The spoilers are much better than expected

Tow and talk at Randers mfc today.
Nice thermals and the Asw 22 had a 58 min, and a 31 min flight + some shorter flight for fun
The trim and CG is pretty good now and it’s now a real pleasure to fly, and more easy to fly compared to my 6 meter DG800s

Soren, thanks for putting together these videos and especially for including approaches and landings!
This 22 indeed is stiff... who built the wing? Excellent work and flying!
