Lipo found; sends school into lockdown

Local news here. I fly near that school, but I don't use "Dynamite" brand lipos...

BREMERTON – A suspicious object brought to Klahowya Secondary School on Friday morning was determined to not be dangerous, police said.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious object around 9:50 a.m., spokesperson Scott Wilson said. The item had black and red wires attached to it and the word “Dynamite” printed on it, Wilson said.

A student, who had found the object outdoors, reportedly brought it to the school principal’s office. The office was evacuated and the school went into lockdown mode.

A Washington State Patrol bomb squad officer was called to the scene. He x-rayed the object and determined it to be safe.

Wilson said the device appeared to be a battery for a remote control toy, and that “Dynamite” was a brand name.

“They did the right thing. They followed protocols,” Wilson said.

Police left the scene around 11:45 a.m. after it was determined there was no threat.

Well I guess that was the "sensible" response
I'm rather surprised that none of the staff or the LEOs recognised what it was immediately though
Funny old world

i would imagine that more than one recognized it for what it was, and just went along with the flow, to see how it would turn out.

Oh my! We need to require registration numbers on the outside of all batteries so that LEO and first responders can tell at a glance that they are not bombs!

If they required terrorists to register their bombs this would not happen.

From the sound of this thread, it seems people still think this hobby is more popular than it really is. Why should anyone outside of the hobby know what that battery was? It doesn't look like a computer battery, or a cell phone battery, or something you put into a flashlight. MAYBE similar to a cheap R/C car battery, if you were to take it out of the toy, but certainly nothing like a DJI or other higher end "drone" battery that you'd see at Best Buy, Walmart or other big retailers. Regardless of all the drone hysteria, you don't see images of these batteries in papers or the news.

So tell me, why should a bunch of school teachers know what this battery was?

Because I have never seen a Dynamite battery before I did the Google Images to see what it looked like.

All of the images show a label with the word dynamite as a logo in the lower right corner.
The words LITHIUM POLYMER BATTERY are at least as big as the logo.
It may be good practice to be cautious but common sense could have saved a lot of time.

It fills some space in the news paper though.
