Falcon

Falcon was put on 'paper' about a year ago, but the idea of this plane appeared a few years ago when I flew XX-Lite from Kristof. Ever since then I wanted to design and build a plane with a slim wing, a huge launch, and fast legs, but more 'floaty' and not quite as extreme as XX-Lite. This meant a slightly larger wing chord than XX-Lite, but smaller than the NXT. The 4-in-the-pod servo layout was a logical solution that allowed for a thinner wing without compromising the airfoil or the structure of the wing. This also makes the build process a lot easier for the plane owner.

HQ composites delivered all that I was hoping for. The quality of the parts is excellent. The fit and finish are superb. You have to see the plane to really appreciate how nice and shiny the surfaces are.

The initial flight tests confirmed the primary design goals. The plane launches straight and very high. The flight speed is relatively fast, as it should be for a narrow wing plane. But when cambered up the plane 'grabs' the air extremely well and circles tight without any hesitation. The plane is super friendly and should allow even low experienced pilots to extract maximum performance from it. The price is set at a very competitive level $670 (+ shipping), which hopefully will attract not only competition pilots but also beginners and new DLG pilots.

It's time for you, the future owners, to appreciate the plane and give it a try. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Fantastic to see you back in the game Oleg! The built quality looks very high and the molded in ballast pocket (I assume?) along with the received aileron attachment are very nice touches. The price is also right, this is on my short list if I get back into contest flying some this summer.

I'm just curious, is the airfoil your design/variant or is it one of the GT family? Any thoughts on a 2P version at some point?

Sam! I hope yo come back and fly F3K again

Yes, the wing is based on Gerald's Synergy2, but modified for smaller chords especially at the root.

Yes, we are planning a 2-piece wing version, but not sure how soon.

Looks good! if you had anything to do with, I'm sure it will be a good one!
What is the wing area?
how does the 4 in pod will connect to the wing?

P.S - Never mind, I got the idea of the wing connection.
Now I'm curious regarding the ballast system, looks different

Looks really cool, Oleg. Love the ballast system.

There may not be many XXLites still around, but it sure influenced a lot of designs - Go Kristoff! :-)

The first batch of Falcons is being built as we speak.
I had a couple order submissions already - thank you!
If you want to get in on this batch, submit an order and tell me your color preference!

Curious how the plane will perfor m in very light lift . I would want it to perform as well as the NXT. But with a smaller wing. I am doubtful!

Those were heady days, indeed
I still have that first XXLite that I brought to Poway ‘12.

Mike is right! you need to try and find out!

From my experience so far, it floats as well or better than NXT.
We had a small practice session last Saturday, and I felt very comfortable floating around in very light bubbles. Jesper was flying NXT next to me, and I certainly did not feel any disadvantage with staying in light lift.
