Saito FA-115, A Closer Look

I took a closer look at interior of my Saito FA-115 this morning. It was sold to me as 'Low time' -- & it looks it

I oiled the Piston, Valves, Crankpin, and put oil down the Guide Rod Covers

It was missing intake washer but came with another (in a 115 Gasket Set). I replaced that and now it is whole. Ready to tear up the skies!

The 'not included' valve seat inserts is Truly impressive.

Are you talking about the brass valve seats on older Saitos? I noticed that too...

Good news though, My FA-115 has massive compression. I couldn't turn it over by hand without a prop. So i'm happy

I noticed my FA-50's have brass inserts while the FA-72...just bare aluminum. In fact, the .72 seems to have an air leak at valve seal.
The lack of brass insert explains a possibility why. However, i imagine the FA-72 was run hard on a 3D plane (used engine, unknown past) because the piston also shows wear (atop middle 'combustion' portion).

I have decided i favor the older engines because of this--But i do like the newer stuff. It is kinda like the old hunting rifles vs new. Wood and steel vs plastic fantastic
Sure, the plastic is nice for low maintenance & all weather!... but it is just not the same quality or feel.

And our children may never know what a 'real' rifle feels like until you show them an old Garand or massive Springfield M1903--their eyes light up and they start asking questions
