Mini-Review
Betafpv beta85x HD cinewhoop review and some tips to avoid magic smoke
This is a whoop with difference , it's got full HD 1080p on board recording in the same camera as fpv feed.
It takes 2s or 3s ( 4s is not recommended due to possible ESC damage but is possible with care , betafpv will not cover you under warranty if you try this. ) It weighs around 70g without battery so no light weight but this is a cinewhoop and not for racing , it is for making cool video doing very close proximity and flying through areas a normal hd drone simply cannot. Having said that it does acro quite well, loops and rolls and split s etc are all possible. Bench review for those who'd rather watch than read.
The video quality is beautiful, the quad itself is very robust and can crash like any whoop without damage so no worry about hitting things as it will simply bounce off with the ducts acting like bumpers. Here are a few videos to show the picture and capabilities, more video will defo follow as I get better batteries and set the thing up some more. Bellow the videos I will also do more review as I get more experience of it, I've already flown about 40 packs through with no ESC troubles ( one video shows a simple mod to avoid battery possibly shorting out ). Some early units suffered ESC failure too and betafpv will replace these damaged ones free of charge offering a lifetime warranty on the ESC and FC .
Some pics to show the potential problem of usb socket shorting out the battery , I fixed this by putting some plastic between them, also I resoldered the battery wires to the ESC just of make sure they were secure ( other reports of these wires coming off on early batches made me do this ) I used locktight on all screws etc and tightened them all properly. I strongly suggest you do the same to avoid problems later. Best battery choice is probably around 450mah 3s , I didn't have those so I used the 300mah 2s that I have for my beta75x and it did a pretty good job anyway and flight times were 3 minutes with 3:40 possible if I went to lvc. Pros and cons, Pros Hd recording video is excellent Can fly it just about anywhere. Very tough doesn't break easily. Can fly on 2s or 3s. Cons It is bigger than a normal power whoop and so not as agile. Need to buy 3s lipos if you want the best power. 4s isn't recommended arm Conclusion This is a great quad for making quality freestyle indoor/outdoors garden park etc video to upload to youtube. I think it will make a great filming quad for filming things and flying through areas that just can't be done with bigger stuff. It is small enough to put in your pocket or a small bag etc along with a small tx and goggles and take with you just incase you find somewhere really good to fly just like a normal whoop but record in quality hd. It isn't really going to replace my whoops or power whoops because they are smaller lighter and more agile BUT that isn't really what this is for, it is another option and a good one considering new regulations about weight limits and registration for drones, this one will not fall into that category and so is much more stress free way of getting hd video. Indoors video To follow. Get it direct from betafpv https://betafpv.com/products/beta85x...13363518472236 |

Maiden flight of my frankenwhoop lol
Looking like I'll get about 5 or 6 minutes fairly hard flying with this on 2s 300mah. It'll take bigger batts so could be a great little cruising whoop with decent power.. |

Tuned better now,
Hard flying gets 5 minutes to 3.7v per cell. Cruising and acro mix easy 6 minutes.

This battery seems to work well for a nice cheap option for the beta85x HD , I just flew it for 5 mins and it had good punch out.
https://bit.ly/2IOWs2E ( affiliate link ) not bad for £5. |

Quick acro flight with the 85x hd using 300mah 3s lipos from my sailfly X etc , does pretty well for a 3 minute flight to 3.7v resting per cell.
Makes it more fun being light and reasonably powerful.
But if you are buying batteries for it I would recommend this one https://bit.ly/2JU2KMu |
