Introduction
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a legendary long-range supersonic interceptor and fighter-bomber that continues to serve in some countries more than 60 years after making its first flight. Capable of top speeds up to and even beyond Mach 2, the F-4 set numerous speed and altitude world records while serving the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force. The E-flite® F-4 Phantom II 80mm EDF is an Extra Scale replica that delivers outstanding authenticity and incredible performance with fantastic handling—especially when it’s equipped with exclusive Spektrum™ AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies (BNF® Basic version only).

Overview
The E-flite® F-4 Phantom II 80mm EDF is a replica of the awe-inspiring supersonic interceptor and fighter-bomber legend. It features an accurate outline and an abundance of Extra Scale details including molded-in panel lines and hatches, main gear strut covers, removable ordnance and tanks, plus a factory-applied finish that pays tribute to the VF-51 “Screaming Eagles” squadron. Functional Extra Scale features include LED landing and navigation lights, full-flying stabs, operational flaps and control surfaces with pocket hinges, sequenced nose gear doors and electric retracts with shock-absorbing struts so you can fly off a variety of surfaces, including grass fields. The 6S-compatible brushless inrunner motor and 100-amp ESC are perfectly matched to an 80mm 12-blade fan to deliver incredible thrust and speed, plus a turbine-like sound. It’s also the easiest to assemble Phantom ever with a factory-finished EPO airframe that bolts together—no glue required—in less time than it takes to charge a battery. And it all adds up to deliver a unique flight experience with the best handling and performing F-4 model yet!

Exclusive Technologies
This is the first high-performance F-4 Phantom model equipped with exclusive Spektrum® AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies (BNF Basic version only). AS3X works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence to deliver a locked-in feel that makes it seem like you’re flying a much larger airplane. Optional-use SAFE Select offers pitch and bank angle limits along with automatic self-leveling that can be turned on and off at the flip of a switch making this an easier to fly Phantom than there’s ever been before! And if you don’t want to enable the SAFE Select features, simply bind the receiver normally and only AS3X will be active.

High-Performance EDF
The 12-blade 80mm fan, high-RPM brushless inrunner motor and 100-amp ESC combine with your 6S 4000–5000+mAh LiPo battery to deliver great vertical performance and a fantastic speed range with virtually instantaneous throttle response. This power system also delivers better performance and longer flight times than the 6S-compatible power systems used in larger EPO or even similar sized composite and wood models that were available in the past. But what makes the experience truly rewarding is the fantastic sound it produces—it’s almost like a real turbine.

Extra Scale Details
The F-4 Phantom II 80mm EDF features an accurate outline and an abundance of Extra Scale details including molded-in panel lines and hatches, main gear strut covers, removable ordnance and tanks—more details than you typically find on similar class and smaller models.

Functional Extra Scale Features
Factory-installed LED navigation and landing lights, full-flying stabs, operational flaps and control surfaces with pocket hinges—even sequenced nose gear doors—are functional Extra Scale features that take your experience to another level.

Capable Gear
The steerable nose gear with dual wheels and the wide-spaced main gear feature reliable, factory-installed electric retracts equipped with durable metal components and shock-absorbing struts that make it possible to fly from a wider variety of surfaces including paved runways and even grass.

Durable Precision
Construction with fully-molded EPO material makes it possible to replicate complex detail and shapes in a lightweight yet durable form. The result is an outstanding scale appearance that’s easy to maintain and delivers the best possible flight experience, plus the factory-installed metal-geared servos with ball-link equipped linkages deliver crisp and precise control at every speed.

Easy Assembly
No glue is required for assembly and you can have the F-4 ready to fly in less time than it takes to charge a battery! The stabs plus the two-piece wing with an innovative hands-free connection system bolt into place and can easily be removed for convenient storage and transport.

Unique Trim Scheme
The factory-applied paint and decal finish pays tribute to the VF-51 “Screaming Eagles” squadron while providing excellent visibility and a model you’ll be proud to show off everywhere you go.

Bind-N-Fly® Completion Level Advantage
Already own a Spektrum™ transmitter? Bind-N-Fly (BNF) aircraft make getting into the air quickly and with the best control experience possible easier than ever. They come out of the box with the power system, servos and a Spektrum 2.4GHz receiver installed so all you need to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, finish any final assembly and fly!

The Bind-N-Fly Basic version is equipped with a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX® receiver featuring AS3X (Artificial Stabilization–3-aXis) technology that works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence so you enjoy a sense of stability and precision that makes it feel like you're flying a much larger, expertly tuned aircraft.

If this is your first model of its type, or you want an extra margin of safety while familiarizing yourself with the airplane, you can enable the optional-use SAFE® Select flight envelope protection technology built into the receiver. No programming is required. Simply change up the binding sequence as directed in the manual.

With SAFE Select enabled, you get:

Pitch and Bank Angle Limits
• These envelope limits keep the airplane from rolling or pitching upside down. They also prevent excessive climb or dive angles.

Automatic Self-Leveling
• The airplane instantly returns to and holds level flight when the sticks are released and in the center position. It’s also helpful for keeping the wings level during takeoffs/launches and landings.

Easy Switch Assignment—No Programming Required
• The simple procedure for assigning a transmitter switch to turn SAFE Select features on and off doesn't require any programming and takes just a few seconds.

If you don’t want to enable the SAFE Select features, just bind the receiver normally and it will function like a standard AS3X receiver.

Plug-N-Play® Completion Level
The Plug-N-Play (PNP) version comes out of the box with a factory-installed power system and servos that are ready to connect to the compatible receiver of your choice (sold separately). Simply install the receiver, finish any final assembly and fly!

And a few quick notes before I run off to meetings (and to proof the video )...

• This is an all-new, ground-up design (which was started before some other models were announced/available)

• NO GLUE is required for assembly...9 screws and it's ready to go (for those that have put together our Viper 70mm EDF, it's a lot like that!)!!!

• Flight time will depend on many factors (condition/performance of the battery used, flying style, etc.), but is typically 4-6 minutes on 6S 4000-5000mAh batteries flown the way most of us here fly a jet....and we just put one of the new 7000mAh Spektrum Smart LiPos in it (which fit like a glove ), so flight times could be even longer than that for many! And as noted above "This power system also delivers better performance and longer flight times than the 6S-compatible power systems used in larger EPO or even similar sized composite and wood models that were available in the past."

• Pricing will be announced tomorrow...and in the end it's a great value, costs less than larger models AND is about 1/2 to 1/3 the price of our 'old' F-4 32DF model

Lots of specification details provided, but what's the motor kv?

2000Kv

Also, FWIW....we've seen/heard people say they won't buy a model, or try to 'compare' the performance of completely different models, based on the Kv of the motor (which is why we don't always publish that as 'clearly' as we used to). The size/shape/type of and the materials used to build a motor, plus the design/size of the fan/prop (along with the aerodynamics of a model), have a huge impact on performance (hence why the V900 is as fast as/faster than other similar class models even though its motor has a Kv of 1260 and those other models have 1780Kv motors). Relative Kv can somewhat matter (like when comparing the motors we have in the 'original' Timber, the new Timber X and the new Turbo Timber...all have the same 'size' of motor, but different winds/Kvs to work with different sizes of props and cell counts to offer different levels/types of performance), but on many/most others, it's just not that important of a value to have/know (though in this case we know some will be comparing the Kv of motors used in other similar sized fans...but rest assured, our motor/fan combo is likely one of the best you can get for an 80mm power system right now!).

I'm looking forward to watching vids of this bird flying plus what pilots flying them have to say in regards to how they are. That's how I make up my mind if I'm buying or not. Kv's don't necessarily determine if I'm buying or not, because, in most cases, I put aftermarket power plants in mine.

I heart EDFs!!

I really like it. From the specs, it sounds like you are using the FMS 80mm fan/motor. You'll get no complaints here if you are. That is a spectacular performing EDF with great sound!

Love the look and the full flying stabs! Great job HH!

...and now we wait to see the price!!!

Jason M,

I have a 6 Cell 6600 10C battery I use in my Carbon Z T-28. Will it work in the F4? Concern about the low C rating of the battery. I do not want yo hurt it.
