Oh yeah, Paddy, you should cover the top of the wing with white, and the L.E and botton with black Ultracote! |

EZ* Gang, Temp got up to a hot 38 degrees Wednesday in central NJ.
Ran over to the field and had 5 nice flights.(3 Batteries) Landing on a powdery snow covered field is very nice. No broken parts to fix. Did have a motor shut-down I didn't expect from the standard Multiplex ESC, but I was high and it was 2 seconds and back to power. Will soon upgrade the ESC to a 15 amp unit. Does anyone try to cool the std M'plex ESC..? Fly for fun...... Tbass (WM2M) |

I want to get into the rc flying hobby (again). I had a Duraplane BAT/ARF .40 trainer probably 10 or so years ago. Had some success learning totally alone, but liquidated when I went to back to school. I have no equipment now. I want to get into an electric arf trainer and go brushless with lipo right off the bat and also get a decent 6 or more channel radio that I will be happy with in the long haul. I don't need the ultimate radio as I have a budget, but something spectra, computer, $250+ish right away seems to make sense from a cold start. My rc car racing buddy told me one major radio brand is known to have a delay between the transmit and servo movement. He thought Hitec was a good way to go (so maybe optic). I was focusing on the ultrafly cessna, but wanted to have solid success with a bit lower build time to start so looking at the easystar closer.
Any recommends for brushless motor, esc, lipo, servo, prop combos knowing that I will likely want to take some of these out and put in the next step plane once I build confidence up? Might as well recommend a good, flexible, charger too. |

FRANCISCO.
I think the EZ* is too low key for what you are looking for. I suggest the Multiplex MAGISTER for you. Quick build. Made of Elapor and so resistant to damage. Excellent flight characteristics. Takes off and lands on it's own undercarriage. Can be configured with Flaperons if that is what you wish. I have an AXI 28/20/10 for mine on a CCP45 programmable ESC and 3S Li Polys. Can really make use of a 6 channel radio set, if using the optional bomb dropping or glider towing features. See it on Patrick Plawners web site or http://www.modelspot.com or the Magister thread in RCgroups. Cheers. Paddy. |

Hey gang,
Just finished building an ES for my wife. I have noticed on the elevator that when it moves up or down, it tends to bow because the elapor isn't very stiff. What have other people done for this? I'm thinking of just cutting some of the hinge material on the elevator to make it looser. thomer |

Thanks and intro (long)
Thanks to all who have contributed so much knowledge and info to these threads (and to those who have collected it on the fan sites). I'm still plowing through the threads (only up through # 7), but I felt confident that the EZ was the plane for me and that I could do the basic mods. BTW, living in Atlanta I can tell you that Treetop comes by his name easily, Atlanta is truly a city in a forest.
A longish intro since I feel I know some of you from all the posts. I'm a 52 year old musician (electric bass), living in Atlanta. It's my second career and having come to it late in life, I have to hustle pretty hard to make a living. These days I'm working with four bands and do freelance work and teach as well. A couple of the bands are doing well and playing good music, so life is good. I've always been intrigued with flying, but never did much about it. A few dizzying laps with a control line flyer as a kid, took an introduction to hang gliding class at Kitty Hawk Kites, got really involved with an off and online flight sim (Red Baron, RB2 and RB3, literally thousands of hours of stick time) and fly a stunt kite whenever I get near a beach. I recently saw a guy messing around with a free flight glider at the football field near my house and it got me interested enough to do some web searching. I was quite surprised at the park flyer phenomena and fascinated by the light weight planes designed for small area flight. Decided to go the cheap route to dip my toe in the pool and got a Hobbyzone Scout. Well, after only 20 minutes of flying, I'm hooked hard. Wow, what a great feeling! After 2 weeks of flying the Scout (and lurking here), I decided on two beginner's planes for myself. The EZ for days when I have room to fly around a bit and to feed my fascination with gliders and a Slow Stick to tool around a close by football field. As it happened, the EZ arrived first and I've been having a ball with it. Joe |

Well my wife and I were out walking and we walk in the woods near the field where I fly, and I hear this electric plane flying and low and behold, it is an Easy Star. We went down to meet the pilot and it was Joe_Atlanta. He actually looks more like my avitar than his own. We had PMed each other about where to fly around here, and it turns out he lives a couple miles from me. So we will have to get some rubber boots and take pictures to post here like this one:
