Cierva C30 by Astik Models

I could not resist to buy the Cierva C30 Kit by Astik Models, a Latvian based small company.
Email exchange was very friendly and fast.
Delivery was fast and as promised.
I ordered an extra set of blades and a delta plate.
I am no specialist in wood kits, but sofar I am very pleased with the quality of the kit amd all its parts.
Here is an unboxing video:

P.S: sorry for the music, could not find anything reasonable on YouTube.

It's all in the Blades!

Wernersen,

I was asked to get one sorted for a friend, here is what I found:

Roll control is clever but very limited, with the hard wood blades they were a struggle to get to spin up and when they were control was sluggish. So I put a set of my own lighter blades on and this solved the issue, though roll was still limited but well within the boundries of safe flying. I could have altered the aerofoil of the originals to help spin up but it was easier to make a new 'proven' set.

The rear end was built quite heavy and I needed to add lead to get a respectable 16 degrees hang angle, well worth checking and keeping things light as you can.

Make sure you add locktite to the bolts on the head, they came loose on the model I was setting up which gave me odd results until it was spotted.

Here is a video of the modified c30

Rich,
do you know if the blades you exchanged may have been the old version?
I do not know when they changed for new blades and head, but a video named " test of new blased..." was published 10.2018 , while your video is published 04.2017.
Test of new blades for RC model of the Cierva C30 autogyro (EP) by AstikModels (2 min 50 sec)

Hope I am lucky and got improved blades. To me they look pretty good and have a SG6042 airfoil.
You know the weight of your replacement blades?
I will do my best to build a light tail!!
Thanks again, any help is highly appreciated

Those seem to be the old ones. They changed to the new version late in 2018.
The new ones have hard wood (oak??) leading edge and balsa trailing edge. They also have a proper SG6042 profile. To my eyes they are excellent quality, practically ready to cover. I have got one set of blades that has all blades within one gram around 100g. The other set is within about 2 grams if I remember right.

I don't really like the nose section of the kit. The original C30 has a rounded fuselage front, so I printed a part that resembles this better.

Werner...You may find this hard to believe......BUT I wondered if you would print a new nose section ..because the front section of the kit does just not look correct....true.

I also bought a C30 and thought that Astik Models has excellent costumer service and my kit was very well packaged and shipped promptly. I ordered a set of the new style blades and they came with the new designed rotor hub so I can upgrade my C30. Plus the chocolate was delicious.
