Makes sense! I'll have a hard time deciding between this one and a 52" Slick.

Yeah, that's a tough call. I haven't flown the 52" Edge yet so I can't compare them yet, but there's every reason to believe this will fly like any other Edge, only better with advanced construction and better equipment. If you like Edges, this will be a great plane for you. I think everyone likes Edges anyway, but admittedly nothing is going to beat the Slick for being cool.

Since we will have four of these soon, there's more reason than ever to have more than one, or even all of them. . The Edge is probably different enough from the Slick that each will have it's place in serious pilot's fleets. That, and everyone needs an Extra too. There really isn't a 52 you can afford to be without.

The 52s fly nearly as well as a 60, and they are nearly as practical as a 48". This makes choosing a plane more difficult than ever, simply because they are all so damm good.

Thanks for reading!

I've got a blog post already set up so I can drop the photos as fast as I can take them. I'll have them posted before I actually start on the build so everyone can see the plane and it's features, and then I will follow up with a complete report when it's all done and flown, with video, of course. I hate to stop in the middle of build and have to photograph and write something, so the first report will be nothing but pictures.

Thet way it sits now, all that is left is to put in the gyro tray, put the tail on, hinge it, mount the cowl and then bolt on the finished sub assemblies (which I already have already set up) so this should go rather quickly. I know the Edge is going to use the same hardware as the other 52s, and I have spares, so I wanted all of those assemblies finished ahead of time. Pushrods and servo arms, tail wheel assembly and wheels/axles are ready to simply bolt on. There's nothing time consuming left, so I can pay very closer attention to the only critical part left.......hinging. Even that is not so hard as long as you take your time, and it's worth at least that to get a good job.

Putting the stab on is a no-brainer kind of thing now because the self aligning design assures a perfect job. I don't think we talk enough about this feature because it's a brilliant design that eliminates the biggest potential mistake of the entire build. It used to be if you got it on crooked the plane could do all kinds of crazy things, but that possibility has been almost completely eliminated.

While I know ahead of time it's going to be perfect, I still measure them just for peace of mind. I've built so many of these planes with the self aligning stab that I hardly sweat it any more. On my 60" Extra V2, I jammed the stab all the way forward, measured it one time and then hit it with glue. In sharp contrast is the old way that always took at least an hour. I don't need to tell any of you what a pain that was, but now it's simply gone.

Stab installation is now one of those things that's easy to take for granted, kind of like we've forgotten how miserable of a job covering used to be. I think you have to have actually built a sheet and stick balsa plane or two to appreciate the level these products have risen to. The newer guys never had to do these things, and the veterans, while appreciative, expect this kind of thing. I'm a bit different because I hated to build, and still grateful that now I don't have to.

I'm not exactly sure when the plane will get here, but I am hoping it's before the weekend. That might be optimistic, but even if it came later today that's not soon enough for me. I think this is going to be an extremely important plane for everyone.

We don't have any video of the 52" Edge just yet, but it's not hard to believe it's going to be similar, but better than the 48". Using the Extra as a reference, the 52" is similar to it's 48" little sister, though much more lightly flying, probably a bit more precise. The 52" Extra is also a world better in 3D because of the huge 15/6" prop and I expect the Edge will feature all of these benefits too.

Of course it's all conjecture at this point, but I'm sure the Boss wouldn't have signed off on it unless he got it perfect. Edges in general do monster 3D, though with the lighter wing loading, higher power to weight ratio, uber quality servos, and all the newest construction, there's no doubt this will be the best 4' Edge ever. I fully expect the new Edge to challenge the 60" Edge EXP for stability and probably even a little better in agility because of it's smaller size.

Here's my last 48" Edge video, and this was shot before I was playing with gyros. This plane used the Torque 2814/Airboss 80 power system, and the standard Hitec HS65MG/HS85MG (on elevator) servos running on 6 volts. Pretty much as standard as it gets, so we can also expect the 3910's insane power, bigger prop and better servos will play their part in making this the best Edge ever.

Would love to see you tomorrow, but please give us until noon. We have a limited time to unload the container before we get charged additional fees so it will be all hands on deck to knock it out. Happy to give you all the time you need after noon. Thanks!

Put him to work Boss! All hands on deck!

Really happy to have an Edge in 52". Check my blog Friday night and if everything goes right I'll have a live photo report. Hope to have the entire report with all the usual stuff posted Sunday night.

What is the most popular size lipo for these 52" airframes? Really looking hard at this edge and the slick but the slick is out of stock🤔
Doc looking forward to your flight review!

Doc. Are you going to be using the Pro Modeler DS100DLHV servos? 100 oz/in torque at 8.4v. Same price as the Hitech servos that are recommended.

Sippin' on Kool Aid
Any chance the power system from the discontinued 51" slick would work in this airframe?

My slick is aging, and would really like to transplant the motor + ESC at least into something new. I know I will need new servos at least.

Absolutely. I have those in all of my 52, except my primary Extra that uses DS150.

Most of us like 4s 3300.

There might be some Slicks in this container. They are unloading the container now, so check the website in the afternoon. If not, it's Chinese New Year, so it's going to be a little while.
