Avro Avian Monoplane -- History ? ---

Feb 1986 AeroModeller has quite a nice 24" Avro Avian Monoplane in it.

Would seem to scale up well.

The cover shot shows G-AAYW in a "Verdant Green".

Kermit would be pleased.

I had a search on the net found a RC model picture in bright yellow same rego ? ? ? ?

Did not find much on the real one though. No Photos

Did it not survive long enough to get put in a museum, so no modern colour photos ?

The intent is not a supersacle job , just to relate to the original

Was there only one ? Did it change colour.

It seems in those years Aeromodeller had a lot of subjects that would make great parkscale/electric, maybe the new owners should consider revisitng the back catalog.

Thanks in advance....

This is the Yellow Avian

Oh sorry should have included a picture considering the obscure subject so you can all see what it looks like.

There is the Yellow one, resamples to a smaller size, can't remember where I got the photo from

Have vague memories of a simplified version in one of the UK mags - maybe RCME - around when I left UK (1994). I'd have a scrat around the Nexus and maybe even the Traplet RC plans services for this one.

Other fuzzy memories suggest it might have been done more scale-like, but lack of reliable documentation is a liability for a contest model despite its good flying qualities. Not sure if that one was published though.

The 'green' reference is about the only colour info that survives, believe only one was built. If you are going to get any info, it'll be in England most likely. Try contacting Gordon Whitehead, who hangs out around here sometimes, he has a lot of contacts in that game.

Thanks Dereck,

A lot more info around on the Biplane, and live flying examples.

Apparently Amelia Earhart flew one between New York and San Diego on a record setting flight.

Inline and Radial engine versions, I have a 28" plan for 0.5cc Free Flight to enlage as a starter too.

Just one of the many photos I found this one taken at Floyd Bennet Field, NY

Hi Peter
That colour scheme and dummy radial should keep you out the pub for a week or two

Looked up the Traplet plan on their website - it's a 'scale' model, and I suspect fairly large, though they don't list its vital

stats.http://www.nexusonline.com/pages/nexusdirect.cgi

Features Dennis Wade's 60" span semiscale - simplified UC, and fuselage.
