Catboat Build from Scratch

Hi All,

I have a thread I mistakenly started in the scale boats forum about this Catboat I am building from scratch.

LINK - https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...d-from-Scratch

The reason I wanted to build this is that we have had a Marshall 18' Sanderling in and out of the family since the early 70s. "Whiskers" was first purchased by my grandfather and raced on the jersey shore. The boat was sold when he past and my parents found it and bought it back in 1989. They too raced it and eventually sold it for a larger boat in the 90s. I currently race on one during the summer with plans to purchase Whiskers back when the current owners are ready to move on. Here is a photo of my wife and I sailing her a few years back.

and my progress so far.

Couple notes. Like the big boat she suffers from a weather helm if you get a nice puff you will be heading up in n auto tack faster then you can react. any type of reach is a little tricky so I will try to elongate the rudder arm for more angle.

I also had a mishap. I had an unexpected balloon gybe that wrapped the main sheet around a cleat which in turn snaped the closed loop for the sail control. Easy fix

Thanks Bill,

I actually follow him on Instagram we have had some lengthy discussions about the designs of both of our boats.

thought crew would be a good idea....and the weight at the stern might improve sailing characteristics??
