Automated Drone Technology

Now this is something futuristic that is happening. Sunflower Labs is planning to launch a new product for automated intelligent outdoor security. It consists of 3 parts, the Bee autonomous drone, the Hive charging station and Sunflower sensors. The sunflower sensors are set up on your property and they monitor the area and look for unusual activity. They have a lighting system that can illuminate the area as well.

Meanwhile the Bee drone is hanging out in the Hive charging station staying topped off and ready to fly at a moments notice. It can fly autonomously to the activity the sunflower sensor detects and stream live video while also recording footage for later playback. The Bee can also be directed manually if you just want to check on your property. The Hive houses the systems computer and the Bee drone will autoland back into the hive for charging and to get protection from weather.

This all sounds very sci-fi at the moment, but the technology does exist to make this happen. They don't have pricing or a release date yet, but we expect to see this product launch hopefully by the end of this year. The home security industry is huge with smart cameras becoming more and more popular every day. This is just one more layer.

The idea is cool, but I wonder a few things:

Will the quads have obstacle avoidance?

What's to stop someone from shooting/knocking the drone out of the sky?

How will the neighbors feel about this?!

I can see this working well on large properties with multiple ways to get on the property (like I used to live in a house with 6 acres, 2 driveways, and a lake that could be accessed from a back road), but in a less rural environment I can see it causing a lot of problems!
