The Mirage 2000 is equipped with 'zero-zero' (zero speed, zero altitude) ejection seat

But apparently they don't always work....sad.

Neither does your link unfortunately. But back in '64 I went for a ride in a Canberra bomber that was fitted with zero/zero seats because they were target aircraft but when used for ground control practise there was always a pilot to take control if something went wrong. When the ground control practise was finished the pilot took over and we went chasing kangaroos around the desert .

zero-zero is a place you never want to be. Though they say they are capable, it depends on conditions if you live. I had to sign a waiver to fly due to my weight and hight. I wouldn't make it in a zero-zero situation. Any other ejection would snap both my femurs. Didn't care, still flew.

Link was/is ok here.

In a B-47 A version Stratojet the navigator had a downward ejection seat. Jimmy knew what he was doing
Same for early F-104 Starfighters. Pilots that ran into problems close the ground had to do a 180° roll before 'punching out'.

Prettig weekend Ron

And many of those people later upgraded to newer planes with upward ejection seats. Several of then rolled their plane upside down and ejected in to the runway when something went tango uniform with the newer planes.
