World Engines Catalog circa 1982

While digging through some stuff today I came across my old World Engines catalog from 1982. Back then my wife and I were putting each other through college. Times were tight. I was happy to have a 40 size Groover and an Aeromaster. I scanned through this catalog many times dreaming of high powered 60's, fast pattern ships, and fancy radios.

I thought I would share a few of the pages I would dwell on.

I thought this X61RE was the coolest looking engine!

Always an OS kind of guy I drooled on these also.

I thought if you owned one of these radios you would be strutting around like a young robin!

And I had completely forgotten that Tony F graced the pages of the catalog along with Dave Brown.

Dave,

Im going to keep an eye out on my travels for any jewel remnants!

The X61 TST is a fantastic ST example. Hanno used one in his F3A Acapulco, Mexico Magic. But you probably know that. I have one mounted on my Calypso build. I have one wing left to build...

Good stuff Dave, thanks for sharing. I remember seeing Tony F. at various Midwest contests in the late seventies. His flying was just fantastic to watch! I managed to acquire a X-61 RE, then found the header, pipe, and heat sink along with a Tipo. It is a beautiful engine.

I worked there with Dave, late 60's early 70's, about 19 months for me, then moved on. The 50 black box open gimbal World Expert systems were flawless.

Do not know what happened to them all, I sent mine to a member here, in Europe.

Worst radio we ever had was the World Engines Expert. My dad bought one of these from a local guy, there must have been a defect because we lost 3 planes due to radio failure. In every case the elevator would simply stop responding. Switched to Futaba FGK's and never had a problem afterwards.

The things I find at the swap meets are truly amazing.

Thank you to RC groups and in particular to the members involved here I really appreciate the plane and I will try to take really good care of her.

Her new name is Fiona

That sure looks to be my Magic. Can't imagine another one in my scheme. Sorry to say my name for it was "Tragic" It had so much rudder to elevator couple that it would do about a 200' circle in KE unless you corrected. I really don't remember what I did with the model but I never flew it in a contest. I must have sold it or traded it to someone. They did remove my AMA number and put theirs on it, but they used the same sort of Trim Monokote numbers I used. Good to know something I built is still around!

BTW, you have the header on the engine upside down.
