Voltage regulator as BEC?

Has anybode tried to replace the rx battery of an F5D plane with a voltage regulator from the main battery? The idea seems to work in helicopters where BEC is sometimes too weak for gyro and servos together. Just the idea of loosing that extra weight and charging in the field seems tempting.

Hi Tuomas,

My buddy and I just sent out 10 beta samples of our new commercial switching power supply to some local E Zoners.

The product is called the Ultimate BEC.

3 amps continuous / 5 amps peak
input voltage: up to 35 volts
weight is about 2/3 oz. with long leads to cut to length.

It may not save any weight compared to the small rx packs that you are using...but no charging is required.

The primary purpose of our product is the high cell count applications where a speed control BEC is not available.
