Review

AWESOME HELICOPTER

flies superbly, smooth and agile, has power to burn, well made and is a bucket load of fun

This heli sets the new standard for performance and price point

well done XK

Okay, units arrived, been through it and note the following

Overall first impression

Allot bigger than the K120 or Trex 150x

Nice canopy and made from allot thicker material than the k120/110 /100 etc

Canopy very snug fit over the chassis

Battery angles up towards the nose

Landing gear looks stout, has nice flex and reinforcements in all the right places.

Rotor head and swash very nicely made and detailed - impressed !

Rotor head - a closer look

The rotor head uses a swash follower setup, this takes load off the blade grip linkages as the follower arms synch the swash and the rotor head rather than the blade grip linkages running though a guide plate.

As a result the rotor head is a fraction taller to accomodate the follower arms but allows for allot smoother cyclic control. This setup is a scaled down version of the blade 300/270/450/330 etc setups and is well proven.

Interestingly the swash to blade grip linkage has been reinforced with a rib section added to both sides to improve stiffness.

In flight this setup no doubt contributed to the smooth fluid feel of the heli

The rotor head also has very stiff dampers fitted, there is minimal deflection across the blade grips - feathering shaft

The feathering shaft is beefed up also measuring 2mm diameter, due to the increased cross section the bending modulous is double that of the k110/120 shaft. No doubt it will still bend under a hard strike

The blade grip bolts are larger than the K120, 1.6mm diameter

Interesting the main blades have a slight taper in there width, the chord width is also quite wide. Will be interesting to try narrower chord widths and longer blades.

Swash is very nicely made and detailed, hard to fault frankily

Main rotor head speed was measured as 6500 rpm at the 80% idle up setting at zero pitch, that’s pretty fast !

The finish and detail on the rotor head is first class and hard to fault

Okay let’s get under the canopy

3mm drive shaft, vs 2.5mm on the K110/120 etc so the main gear is not a swap.

Main gear is beefy and looks like it will be robust

Chassis is quite beefy, even though some what narrow it has decent cross section depth, nice and stiff, reinforced canopy mounts like the K120. Tail mount all solid.

Tail boom is 6.2mm vs 5mm on the K120

Tail fin has a locating screw so it can't spin around into the tail blade the K120 can do.

10mm tail motor, very powerful and very fast reacting, suspect it needs more prop diameter to quieten it down.

Canopy is allot thicker than the 110/120 units and should be pretty durable. Cooling slots top and bottom nice ideas

Canopy though is a very tight fit as it quite narrow and is snug on the main motor wiring on the LHS.

Board is firmly fixed to the chassis plate by three screws. Front 2.4ghz unit is the RX aerial, no blue tooth..........

Battery inserts at an angle up into the canopy nose. Longer batteries will stick out and down a bit more, don't think it will be an issue.

ESC unit just seems to be sitting in there contained by the wirings ? no foam mount obvious ?

Fast bind on the X6 transmitter supplied.

First Hovers:

Feels nice in the hover with smooth fluid reactions, 3g / 6g hi and lo rates all feel nice. did not try idle up yet, RPM range is very high easily in the 6000 plus rpm range. it very much like the trex 150 with a very high head speed deal going on !

feels also very much like the trex 150, nice and fluid but you know it will move extremely fast if you fang the sticks, this is going to be fun !

Clearly the billet head and overall stiffness of the rotor head and swash follower setup provides the clean crisp response feel.

Servos

Generic plastic geared units- some drag internally Nothing gets hot or anything under intial hover testing Will hook up a servo tester and get the speed number etc
desk top testing the servos, on high rates the travel is enough to get the head unit binding a fraction at max travel somewhere and the servos straining if you hold the travel to the max, low rates no issues.

Servos are a bit jerky, I think a run with a servo tool to help bed them in would be a good idea. No grease in the servo on a look inside, adding lube will help smooth them out no doubt !

Servo's, same size as the Trex 150 units but have conventional servo lug mounts. The blue Arrow servos for the V950 fit perfect, but the plug size is still not right, 1.5 vs 1.25. Clearance to the servo horns and the chassis is tighter then than the Trex 150 X Heli.

Tested the ES9251, Trex 150 and JX D56MG servos with a range of adapter plugs, all run fine - good. I didn't have a correctly setup plug for the Blue Arrow but 99% sure it will run fine if all these other guys do so. Blue Arrow and JX servos are pretty much drop in and go but need to sort the correct plug ends. Anything that is an upgrade for a trex 150 or the blade 130x is going to good for this Heli

the JX D56MG looks to be the best bang for the $, metal geared and around $7 each but have to change the plug end have a set on the way to test !

pretty sure the stock servos are the "new" digital units from PZ servo co when you run-through there online catalog

the max 9251 are a tad small, though the newer S II version might be better, also a bargain $ wise but the K130 rotor head might find their limits.

The things that have me pondering:

The ESC does have a kick then a nice slow spool, just like the K120. The stock tx had 40% power set as well on the first increment which doesn’t help .

Once spinning then a very slow idle speed and nice spool up, tail was some what fussy and kicking around until it was spun up and then everything behaved in unison and lift off was very smooth and gentle, very nice indeed and precise into initial hover. Again immediate impressions are: fluid, precise, connected

Been through three gentle hover cycles on the battery to give it a fighting chance ! Warm after testing but nothing excessive

The possibly not so good

The main motor gets damn hot, 70 degrees hot, this is not good and must be on the limit of what's survivable........ and thats only garage hovering, I'm thinking a swap out of the esc will be in order ....... if it gets that hot then thats also why the loctite on the pinions have let go on others !!

Tail motor is a cool 39 degrees C, well survivable.

However hand holding the unit and max tail power it screams like a demon and the motor heat skyrockets. Fast response for sure but maybe a fraction under proped Have larger tail blades to try.

Tail motor shaft is 1.1mm. Bigger than the k110/120

Tried a k123 tail blade, response muted. Maybe to large. More testing and really need to fly it stock first ! But screaming 3ders might find the tail gets very hot ?

First Impressions

Overall a damn solid well built bird IMO and the flight manners seem very nice indeed, this is going to a super fun flier, plenty of power also noting the stock TX only shows 60% throttle on linear mode and only 80% on Idleup ? there is more "go" in there me thinks ???

ESC seems to be the only question mark, and if needed plenty of options on the servos for metal gear upgrades etc

next to check the Devo 10 sets using my K110/120 flight models.

WEAPON GRADE FOR SURE

Upgrades and Modifications

Initial Batch of Heli's, three things have been noted.

The main motor mounting screws are locitited inplace. if you want to alter the main motor pinion to main gear mesh then heat the screw head with a soldering iron tip to break the loctite free, they have been really dosed with allot of loctite so several reheats might be needed. Message has been relayed to XK "no loctite" !

Some user have encountered tail motors running hot: the K120 tail motor heat sink can be stretched to fit, definitely helps.
There are a couple of quads that use 2S 1020 motors. the motors on amazon work great and run cool.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Tail blade is on the small side: the tail screams like crazy, the blade is really to small, best fix to date is the V931 / K123 / K124 tail blade, you do have to redrill the mounting to suit the larger 1.2mm shaft size on the 2s 1020 motors.

Canopies

Hoping This canopy is a nice fit size wise, to big for the K120 ! Stock is really decent though and durable

Servo Update

Stock servos seems decent but will chip gears in a crash

Emax servos are not strong enough with gears failing in flight so scratch those.........

JX D56MG's being tested next, look ideal Turnigy D56MG is the same servo

UPDATE

Blue Arrow D03013mg servos sets on the way to try. Pics to follow

congratulatios!! waintig for your reviwew

i star whit k120 for the moment (3D rookie) but k130 make me fall in love.... Although have a problem, too many 120 parts to spend .... xDDD

A question, what tail blade mount on your k120, blue...?? 50mm?
tried with one 65mm blade although without almost pitch, result, tail motor screams like crazy and burned in 10sec

I 'm very "intelligent"
